I have a basic resume type web site  (www.joehjones.com) that I created with MS Publisher. After creating it I was told by my host (godaddy) that MS Publsiher is a buggy program for web sites, but for now I`ve got to live with what I`ve got. I`ve also had problems with godaddy`s Web Site Tonight web site builder. Anyway, a recruiter said the links from any of my pages back to my home page aren`t working. Is that a problem with MS Publisher or with my host? How do I fix broken links like that?

Hi Joe.

I have to say that I`ve never worked with MS Publisher. But the problem is not with your hosting company. It`s simply that your "home" links are pointing to the wrong url.

Go to your "Portfolio" page. The link from there to your home page works. There`s probably some way to copy that link and use it for your home link on your other pages.

Your home link is actually like this ....

http://www.joehjones.com/www.joehjones.com.htm

... where it should be ....

http://www.joehjones.com/

... or ...

http://www.joehjones.com.htm

Unfortunately, you can create a web site with both MS Publisher and with MS Word... but both programs do a terrible job in terms of producing clean or even moderately clean code.

The code for your home page is over 54Kb... a little large... and each of your pages have names like "page425.htm"...  "page299.htm".  These help for people searching on the term "page 299" but not so much for someone searching for "professional highlights".

Your site may not display properly across different browsers, although it looks the same viewing with FireFox as with IE7.

The "broken link" is the link back to your home page... as M. Hall pointed out. This occurs on all your other pages.

Thanks for the responses! Seems the problem has been identified in that my home page links are broken on all but the portfolio page. I`ll try to figure out how to change the home link (thanks Webline), or cut and paste the portfolio page link to my homepage (thanks SimpleSubjects) and rename my pages (thanks Vwebworld). You guys are very helpful. Thanks!
