How do websites like Digg make money?

It`s not just advertising, is it? I`ve heard in a number of articles that they don`t make all that much from advertising... If they do just make money from advertising, then why is their value supposedly so high?

As a web developer, if a company like Digg does not buy copyrights from you, do you get a cut from deal like this? How?

One chink in that article`s armor, solely as it relates to MySpace, is that recent reports peg monthly revenue there at upwards of $30M - whether that`s sustainable over the long-term is another thing, but with upwards of $350M in annual revenues, the news corp. purchase doesn`t look quite so questionable.
