How do I send a PR to local radio and TV stations that do not have information on their site on submitting a PR to their organization?  The local newspaper has a specific place for PR, but the news and radio stations do not.  Also, do I send a letter from myself, and attach the PR or just send the PR without any other information?  I`m completely new to this and do not know the proper way to contact local media.  (And please don`t suggest a PR person to do it for me, because I`m already running my business out of my own pocket and don`t need the added expenses!  Thanks)

You could call the station and ask them what`s the procedure. I`m thinking the receptionist would know or could connect you with someone who knows.

Hi Rosemary,

Craig is right, and if you can`t find information online, you should try contacting the media venue directly.

And you don`t need to hire a publicist to do your PR for you. To start, check our simple steps to doing your own PR here:

http://www.startupnation.com/steps/77/steps-successful-publi c-relations.htm

Before sending any PR materials, it`s best to create a unique story idea for a specific media member. Then, call that person directly and give your pitch. This way, you`ll save time and paper and start creating valuable media relationships.

For more free information, please see the other articles on this site or feel free to contact me here or at www.rembrandtwrites.com. I`d be happy to offer additional help!

Rosemary, I`d agree that contacting the station directly is a good thing.

Also, I`d recommend "Guerrilla P.R". by Michael Levine. I did PR for my past business without it, and learned by trial and error.

I just got an old version of this book at the library book sale, and it is JAM-packed full of excellent tips, advice and just plain useful information.

I read it cover-to-cover and highlighted as I went. It inspired and educated me.
