I have invented a device that will be used by pre-teens as well as teens the world over.  The cost to produce is small but the buying potential is awsome.  How do I bring it to the market without getting it stolen from me?

hi,

you can try to use the copyrights systems in your city.ask about it,where should you do it and register it under your name, then no one can stoll it from you or you will sue them.

Be sure to talk to an attorney who knows patents/trademarks/intellectual property. A good one will be able to guide you along the way.

Good luck,

Of course you can and should apply for a patent but how you are gonna make money from the idea?  From your bio, you have all the experiences in life but can you make and market the device on your own?

You may want to look into licensing.  I know a successful inventor who sold his idea to business people, who have resources to make and sell his device.  He didn`t spend money on anything.  The licensee paid for patent filing etc...with his deep pocket.

But how many can copy his approach?  It`s all about convincing people to do it for their own profit/benefit first.  Yeah, let them make the big buck and give you royalty checks.  But it does take experience to navigate that treacherous route.

Don`t let China manufacture it, and for that matter don`t even let China hear about it. Patenting something in the states holds water, but I`ve been reading some horror stories from small and large entities about Chinas blatent disregaurd for anything patented or copyrighted, and marketing the knockoffs right back to the US market without penalty. Sure they`ve been doing this for some time, but it`s starting to get taken to the extreme.

I have nothing against Chinese folk, and I`m sure other less engaged countries are doing the same thing, I`m just noticing this alot from China now that many US manufactureres have outsourced their manufacturing to them and the like.

I have a lot against Chinese.  ALL of them have cheated me out of my design work even with solid contracts.  I`m suing them for big bucks with an attorney who works on contingency.

Even one Chinese I know who designed a superior wireless chipset doesn`t apply for a patent for his design.  He said: "why should I teach them how to compete against me?"

The Chinese government is not stupid.  It knows the industrialized countries have most of the good patents so they purposedly do not enforce token IP laws on their book, so their factories don`t have to pay royalties.

They even ignore international standards for the same economic reasons: royalty payment if they follow ISO standards.  So their engineers invent new standards, incompatible with ISO.  If industrial countries want to sell to China, they have to pay royalties instead.  China (and Taiwan) should be kicked out of WTO.  Their people only know money and no ethics matters.

I`m trying to avoid the same problem. I have a patented cheap automatic transmission for bicycles that can replace every one-speed on the planet because it gives a way to pedal up hills when you have to. It`s a utility patent, total novelty in principle.

Anyway, it`s a high volume product, it can be sold on every bike under $100 in the USA because it won`t cost more to make them than a regular gear cluster.

Current project status is: Needs funding for the manufacturing prototype, what you will see on the sales floor, along with an overview of the basics on how to make them since nobody has ever made them before. My agent has the high volume bicycle making group interested and waiting, but I, the inventor, is worthless for collateral and financing as a small, sole-proprietorship company so need help with that end of things.

This step should allow them to hit the market running and since it`s fairly simple it won`t be easy to make any significant improvements for a while.

Assembly lines look to be at about 1,000 units/hour per line so can support a volume market above 5-million units a year from a single factory.

hth,
