What does being labeld as a "green" company get you? Can you extend green benefits to your customers? I own a marketing/advertising company that takes companies and gets them away from using flyers etc. and turns them to text message and email. Would that qualify and where can I find info on what the qualifactions etc. are?

Thanks

Being "green" means that your company has a stake in the betterment of the world, environment and society as a whole.  There are different shades of green, if you will, and lots of companies will fall into a lighter shade which is great, and some will fall into a darker shade, which is awesome.

Having a company that tries to get other companies to go electronic instead of using paper is great.  There aren`t any government programs or benefits that I know of just because of being "green", and a whole analysis should be taken of your company from how much time is spent in the car, on a plane, electricity used by business operations, your website hosting (are they run on wind power), your credit card service provider (like dharma merchant services who gives back 10% of the fees they collect from you to a non profit of your choice)... there are TONS of variables to explore when wanting to be "green".  And again, it`s all about the shade of green you want to be.  I would call my company as being the darker shade of green given our mission and B Corporation status.

Hope that helps

Other green initiatives you get into is as basic as the paper you print on and the printers that print on them. For instance. Some printers and copiers are far better for the environment because they use less power and their toner and parts are easier to dispose of. Our company uses Kyocera copiers because of that (and it doesn`t hurt that it saves us money). So our executives like it because it saves them money on printing and I like it because it is causing a lot less waste and therefore helping make our company green.

Its also important to look at the supplies in your office that your employee use.  Paper towels, plates, Styrofoam, etc.  Whats in your office is as important as what you send out of it.

That why I am asking too.  What state are you in? I have a link that can direct you to your states "green" business hub. Just curious... How`s business? What company you own?

How have your green efforts being going since you created this post in February? Anything new?

Lighting is a good place to start saving money - simply changing to compact floroscent light bulbs will help you shave money off your electricity bills.

A good place to start your sustainability efforts is to focus on reducing waste. You should start by reducing your energy costs. This is critical, as energy costs are rising rapidly and are projected to continue doing so. It is reasonable to target a decrease in energy savings of 15%. Start by calculating your energy costs for the past year, and determine what you need to do to lower those costs by 15%.
You can find new markets by taking your existing product or service, and making it greener. This means looking for legitimate ways to lower the carbon footprint of your services. If you find a meaningful way to sell a product that is truly green - meaning it has a lower carbon footprint then a competitive product - you can open yourself to a market of people who are willing to pay up to 20% more for a green product.

I don`t think that`s being "green" at all (well, that`s just my opinion). While sending e-mail and SMS are indeed more convenient and easier, you still use mobile phones and pc`s - not really the "greenest" pieces of technology as far as I know. Contrary to what you believe, there are printing companies that go green, e.g. by recycling unused paper scraps, printing plates, and ink waste, or by using vegetable-based inks that has lower levels of Volatile organic compounds (VOCs). It`s all a matter of favoring these "green" printing companies rather than those that are not.
I hope this changes your mind about printing flyers. :)

You can start by converting your home - ridding your home of toxic and harmful chemicals - everything from personal care products to cleaning products.

check this out:   www.bestgreenstore.com

we shop there now and our family loves the products and the convenience of having these items delivered to my door -  first 5 mos I got $100 in free products to try in my home.

This store is such a "no brainer" I now built a home based business sharing this store with others.  I work from home and love it.

My hard work today will pay me for a lifetime.

In my opinion, being a green company means you are trying to run your company while using the most eco-friendly products available. One way a company can do this is by installing a geothermal air conditioning and heating system. It's great for the environment and in the end will save money. For geothermal information please visit my website at http://www.geothermalvideos.com
