I am in a very interesting position. I am limited in cash capital, however I can contribute equipment to a restaurant or bar. I am interested in the Chicago area.

My family owns a very large restaurant distribution company, and provides equipment to some pretty large restaurants.

Anyways, I have been looking to get involved in the industry for some time now. I have managed a few bars, and currently work in the night club industry. I`d like to know where my best options are to find people who are planning on opening a restaurant or bar, so I can approach them about becoming partners through my equipment contribution. I figure I can buy it at cost, and provide my fair share in capital to become a partner in the venture, rather than try and invest in a whole concept by myself.

I know I can look at permits up in buildings, but what other ways are there to find people who are planning on opening a restaurant or bar near downtown Chicago. I am looking for an opportunity in Lincoln Park, River North, and Old Town area.

What do you think?

Patrick,
You`re certainly in a very good situation, where you`re providing real assets. I`m thinking of lots of places you could advertise, and likely get swamped.

However, pondering what it would be like to be you, and of course seeing life the way I do, it seems to me that physical contact---social networking would be the most fun. :-)

In other words, why be remote and almost anonymous with a posting on Craig`s List? I`m thinking you`d have a lot more fun getting out and about, talking with folks, and running into real people with a lifelong dream of opening a place.

On a more ethereal level, I happen to think the universe is an organized place, filled with all sorts of interacting energy and ideas. Sort of like a really complicated novel. To that end, if you were to start moving around the area, more than likely you`d find yourself "coincidentally" meeting this or that person who would be the perfect connection.

Think of it all as an adventure. :-) You can read a book about an adventure, or you can actually step outside and become involved in an adventure. To my mind, posting ads and researching permits would be sort of like the reading about it. Just my style of life, of course, and it`s ultimately up to you. :-)
