If you are creating your profile for the first time, simply click on upload my photo and attach a photo of the following types: jpg, jpeg, png, with a maximum file size of 500KB. 

If you’ve already created your profile and would like to add or change your photo, click on Update Your Profile/ Upload/Change Your Photo.

I`ve tried about a dozen times to change my avatar and nothing works for me.  I have resized the picture down to 25 pixels (I don`t what that would be in KB, but I can`t go any smaller.) Still won`t work.

Sorry I am such a novice with the computer and don`t really know what I`m doing I guess.

 You can upload photos by clicking on photo at the top of you profile and choosing upload a photo. Secondly, you click browse to enable you to choose an image from your computer and click on the photo you want. Lastly, click on the share button and the photo will appear in you wall photos album.Follow this steps for uploading of photos and it has certain requirements in terms of file sizes and file types.

So,before uploading pictures please check this conditions.
