This is probaly one of the most important articles you will read on social media marketing.

Many people who use social media for marketing are faced with the challenge of getting more targeted traffic to the websites they are marketing or trying to re-direct traffic from social media to what ever website. Its cute to submit your website to Stumbleupon and Digg in order to get some nice traffic...however if that traffic is not doing anything on your site and in addition to that they are not staying on it for to long - that traffic is not really worth anything.

What happens after a while? You find yourself talking to the wall. No one is interested in the site you are marketing and after a while people get sick of you posting the same link.

So the real question is - how can you stay in the game and not drown in the ocean of social media marketing? What is the best way to redirect social media traffic to your website?

One of the most important tools you will need in order to develop an effective social media marketing campaign is:

One answer for this:

Create Attraction Tools

-Creating a Facebook page is not an attraction tool.

-Sending out endless tweets is not an attraction tool.

-Updating your status 10 times a day - is not an attraction tool

Now get this:

We can learn how to create effective attraction tools for social media from Google adwords.

Why are Google Adwords so popular?

Because they are short, simple, targeted, clear message and above all the message usually has something really incredible to offer: "Buy one get one free!....25% off!..... 50% off!....etc.."

Instead of posting the link to the website on social media sites - post the link with an attraction tool. Example: "New music website! - in honor of our launch we are offering......"

This is one example of an attraction tool.

The next example is a method for getting people to warm up to you, to trust you and to learn more about you

This could be accomplished by:

- Creating a free report to download

- Free teleseminar

- Free case study

- Free consulting

What ever it is - make sure its free and its something valuable.

Well there you have it for now. If there is anything that I've learned from succeeding in social media marketing its two things: Market your information and create effective attraction tools.

Hi,

Thank you for sharing this post. I agree with you with all the hype using social media as a marketing tool, I think we as entrepreneurs should realize that just like any other tools Social media should be use wisely and with moderation. Before creating a fan or group page one must think if we have really do have something to offer our "fans" or "group members". Ask the classic question "What's in it for them?"

Hi

I am an online media enthusiast based on its vast benefits, I would say that this form of marketing is a strong tool to target specific audiences. I agree that a lot of thought has to go into the use of facebook. Facebook is a wide network and can help generate a lot of traffic. find out more of the specific techniques required here. www.syscomminternational.com/blog/

Iyazam,

While tweeting, updating statuses, or posting to a blog is not an "attraction tool" per se, it does provide content for your site.

Without content on your site you won't show up in the search engines.

Furthermore, in your post you offer two examples of attraction tools. Google ads and free content.

You say that creating a Facebook page, tweets, and status updates are not attraction tools. I say that they can be as long as on each medium you are offering something.

What's to stop you from posting free content of your Facebook page?

Good point Ryan,

I think its important to try all available social media tools and after you give them some time, weed out the ones that you feel are doing you some good and focus more on those.

Free tools are also a great way to attract visitors, www.websitegrader.com is an example of a great free tool.

Facebook fans pages are good for one thing: credibility. How? When you take the badge from your Facebook fan page and people see that you have a few hundred fans - it makes you look good. But lets face it - People join a fan page, visit once or twice and then they never show up again.

Social media is just like a few of you have already said a tool. It's not a magic pill and yes you can attract like minded people who will do business with you but you must work at it and avoid getting sucked into the trap of using it all day long. Develop a plan for how you will use it and when and then stick to it.

Iyazam,

I agree with you that Facebook fan pages are good for credibility, and I will grant you that once somebody becomes a fan of something, they probably rarely visit after the first time.

I suppose the key to making the best of that one visit would be to offer them something free. At the very least you will be spreading product awareness, and at the most people will check back for more free content (if it's interesting and you keep it coming, that is).

Verdict is: Social media is a tool. Like any tool, your success with it depends on how you use it.

Agree 100%. Attraction tools are really important. All the social marketing in the world is worthless without attraction tools.

I post on Facebook alot. And I get traffic through free means. I do not pay anyone.

The secret is in the attraction. Make sure that your page really stands out above the rest. Of course you must create a Group account.

Building a loyal fan base is not just an issue of getting them to see what you have, it's making sure that what they see will not only keep them there but will also entertain. Write fresh quality content, of course. Be as original as you can, witty and welcoming.

Aside from content, post relevant videos on the page. Most people are not doing this; so you have a chance to stand out before the wave catches. Your photos too must be attractive.

Do not sell on the page. Give as much information as possible about something your prospects are interested in with links to your squeeze page or blog. You need to establish a relationship first. In any case it is primarily a social site.

Finally, get to know your fans. Have a personal touch with them through fresh auto-responders and if you can, a custom welcome message to each one of them.

You cannot fail if you follow these steps.
