Every marketing expert has his or her own theory about what it takes to be successful. But more often than not, it comes down to pure desire. In other words, how bad do you want it? So that`s my question. How bad do you want success? Are you willing to do whatever it takes within reason to achieve your dreams...or do you have a limit on how far you`ll go before you quit?

I will have to read your posting...but how much do I desire success...hmmm...I would not be on SuN, gaining invaluable information, if I did not desire success.

I have explained SuN to people as "a college course, but I get to tell the professor what I want to discuss, learn, indulge in and pursue." Or going to Barnes and Noble and not having to buy every single book on Marketing, Sales, Pursuit of Happiness, Entrepreneurial Spirit, Web Design, Everything and Anything for Dummies, etc.....you can just go through the postings to what is relevant to your situation at the time. This is a learners dream.....

Colleen, I applaud your enthusiasm and desire to learn. I really do. But just because you`re at SuN doesn`t necessarily mean you want to be successful. This forum has thousands of members whom all have the best intentions, but the fact of the matter is, the great majority of them aren`t going to follow their dreams. They`re not going to take any type of "success action". So just being here doesn`t really prove anything. Please don`t think I`m being negative or trying to dampen your enthusiasm, because I`m not. I`m just keeping it real.

Also, SuN is not a  be all, end all solution for learning about business. You still have to invest in your education in other ways. I`ve been in marketing for over 20 years. I have a very successful consulting business, but I still invest a ton of money in marketing books and CD`s. I`m continually learning. Don`t get me wrong, SuN is an amazing resource, but it can only take you so far. To be successful you have to do more...much, much more!

I hope you read this post in the positive and constructive spirit with which it was intended.

I agree with reading, but Sun does have a wealth of information on topics you want to learn about.

I never said otherwise. In fact, I clearly stated that SuN is an amazing resource, which it is. But as a resource alone, it can only take you so far. There`s a whole wide world of brilliant, brilliant individuals out there, who have succeeded spectacularly - who have a wealth of knowledge to share.I`m proud to call a few of them my friends. They are the ones that can take you where you want to go, if you apply and follow their teachings.

Dale:

I did not take your posting as negative nor can anyone dampen my spirit for success. I, like you, believe that you have to continually educate yourself, which I do with conferences, tons of books, courses and other resources. But now I have found this site with instant answers to questions and I am giddy with the information I have obtained at this point. I am awed by the experiences of all the people who post and I am spurred on by their responses. Yes, Dale you are spurring me on....Again, thank you for giving me information that is invaluable and the positive reinforcement.

Today I am planning my marketing strategy, my PR strategy and I am preparing for a wholesale show on February 15th. I am also getting my "box" together to send for admission into a juried NY show in September. I believe I am a "doer," and not just a "dreamer." And please, continue to keep it real, it can help shake things up.

Thanks again.

Colleen
