We all would like to find the perfect hosting company. Unfortunately, it doesn`t exist. Like it or not, no hosting company is perfect. They all have warts. It`s just that some have more warts than others.

In that regard, tell us who your hosting company is and if you`re happy with it.

I`ll go first. My hosting company is Midphase.  I`ve used them on several of my sites, and for the most part I`m satisfied with their service.

Okay, your turn.

I have 100 sites hosted at PinellasHosting.com - a Florida based company. It is a small company with great service and hosting starts at $5/month - it also comes with lots of  popular software like joomla, drupal, wordpress - that installs automatically - so it`s really easy -

I`ve used several different providers in business.  But if I had to rank them in order of service vs options here would be my list and why:

  1. GoDaddy.com - I know they are not popular with alot of folks but I like options.
    • Likes
      • 24/7Telephone Support
      • Liniux & Windows Hosting
      • MySQL & MS-SQL database servers
      • IIS & PHP servers
      • Unlimited Subdomains (e.g. mystore.mydomain.com, myforum.mydomain.com)
    • Dislikes
      • Server managment is almost too `hand holdy` & cookie cutter
      • Additional cost for minor services
  2. Globat.com - Not very well known in some circles
    • Likes
      • 24/7Telephone Support
      • Very affordable hosting
      • Simple web management
    • Dislikes
      • Only one option PHP and MYSQL database
  3. DiscountAsp.net - My first love
    • Likes
      • Very easy and user intuitive web management control panel
      • Powerful hosting servers
      • IIS-7 Windows Host Servers so PHP is possible
    • Dislikes
      • NO incoming Telephone Customer Support only email
      • No MySQL database services
      • Extra cost for Subdomains
HONORABLE MENTION1&1 Hosting

Notes:
One more little tidbit I want to add here as an extra side note.

Why is PHPMySQL so frequently offered by many web hosting companies?

Simple.  Its economical for the hosting company.  Both PHP and and MySQL are open source projects.  That translates as FREE software for the hosting company to install and use.

I always wondered why GoDaddy, as big as they are, doesn`t have an 800 service/support number. They have decent pricing, I`ve just never liked the backend to manage sites, much prefer Control Panel.

I have a special list of top hosting companies that I`ve compiled based primarily on customer reviews.  And as popular as GoDaddy is, it doesn`t make the cut. I`ll be releasing the list this summer, when I launch my new forum.

I use www.totalchoicehosting.com They have been a great company to me. I have used them for over 8years now and would have to say they have over a 99% uptime. There packages start at just $4.00 per month. They also provide the Fantasico Deluxe package at no extra charge. This includes the below programs that automaticaly install on your web site for you.

That uptime figure, while it may sound impressive really isn`t. All hosting companies make that exact same claim. I`m not saying that TotalChoice isn`t a good hosting company. All I`m saying is 99% uptime claim isn`t all that impressive.

Thanks for  letting us know about TotalChoice!

Actually I never have looked at their number on the web site. That number is just from my practical experance with them. More I think about it the only time in  8 years with multiple web sites hosted with them that I can think of a down time was about 3 years ago when one of their server locations was hit with an ice storm. Nothing was down for more than an hour if I remember right.

I`m sure there are others out there just as good as totalchoicehosting.com but I figure heck, why move from something you’re happy with.

I use GoDaddy. I`m pretty easy to please, but I haven`t had any problems with them and as a result, have little to complain about. A main feature that I like (which may very well be standard with certain hosting plans with any company) is that I can host unlimited sites under the same account without paying extra (provided I don`t need more space).
