My parents started a cleaning biz in Florida when I was younger. Mom had worked with a cleaning company and had some contacts already so that made it easier. But still, one of the best things they did on the marketing front was hanging fliers in the upperscale housing developments. We spent many a weekend hanging fliers on doors.
My dad continued the biz after they divorced, and is still going with it to my knowledge.
Here is another cleaning company owned by a man - they started very small but now are one of the major players in Philadelphia. A huge aspect to their success was leveraging their website to land some major clients...they invested initially in a lot of SEO work and now they are highly ranked and doing very well. That would be my advice - use the internet, it's your best friend!

You should start it as you are highly motivated and I believe that you will understand this business well. The main point of differentiation is your service quality, In this segment you will get more referrals for your services.
Also dont forget to list your business in directories and classified ad sites.

I found that a lot of women chosen a man doing the cleaning as they can do more as far as harder tasks. Lady cleaners they said that they loved to talk talk talk while a man just gets on with it. Some of them didn't employ anything but men cleaners.
