So I work with my best friend in a roofing company. We're mainly concentrating on insurance claim type roof replacements.

I'm trying to hire a sales team that works independently in another city that will bring leads into the business via door to door. I plan to have about 10 employees on the sales team. I will be 1099'ing them and they will be working on straight commission. They will also be working at their own pace in their own free time. To some of the guys that's all day. Some have day jobs.

I'm really playing this by ear, I honestly am a little lost in where to start and whats necessary to keep this legal and without losing money from mistakes.

What type of paperwork is involved in "hiring" these guys? Are they considered sub contractors?

Much thanks in advance!
