Hi there :-) Welcome to SuN....
I think you`re right, that you`re having trouble because you`re trying
to come up with different names for two lines of business. Yet they`re
still the same basic concept, event planning.
What would make the most sense would be a single company name,
interesting and fun for you, and that would give you a matching domain
name. From your home page you could promote (and bias) your marketing
toward the particular types of events you`re most interested in at the
moment. But that wouldn`t exclude any other types of events.
It`d be as simple as saying, "Specializing in custom events for today`s
singles." Then your content would focus on those types of events and
what you have to offer that`s unusual, different, and so forth.
Common ways to come up with a name are your name, your location and its
name, symbols you particularly enjoy, or an acronym of some sort. For
example; if you all your life have identified with pelicans, you could
call the company "Pelican Events, Inc." Whatever the symbol, you can
use it because it has meaning for you.
"Branding" your company is where you take the name and make it have
meaning for the world at large. Do you think "Pepsi Cola" meant
anything at all to anyone prior to the company getting out there and
marketing? :-) What about "Apple," or its derivative, "MacIntosh?"
Thanks CraigL. I appreciate your feedback. I think I`ve finally decided on a name that I am very happy with. Thanks again!
Sounds like you have already figured this out. My suggestion was going to be to keep the name general to event planning. You could always dba and do something like "Singles Events" (dba) by "XYZ Event Planning" (corporate name). I do that with one of my businesses.
Good luck in your new venture - it sounds fun!
