O.K. don`t shoot the messenger..

But, I think  you are too talented to call them posters.   Are they not works of art?

You are actually hand rendering the likeness of somebodys pride and joy, their home.   What if you did this for children?  Would you call it, Posterchild?

just some words to think of....

Your home is art,  My home is art,   Portrait of my home,  Homeportrait

houseportrait, portrait of my house, Castle portrait, portrait of my castle.  Welll, you get the idea.     Home is where the portrait is....

Fine home, Fine portrait.

You are capturing the home, for all eternity, in a portrait.

Beachdi, yep, you make some good points.  Thanks!

But here`s the thing.  Home portraits have been around for a while and most commonly they are a painting or a pen and ink drawing.  I think most people would think of them in this traditional sense.

But that isn`t the way I do it.  I have established myself as a poster designer.  I think about capturing someone`s house within the terms of poster design.  I also draw the works on the computer, not with a paintbrush.  The end result looks like poster art, not fine art.

My style and poster-like approach has been my edge, the main reason people like my work.  What I want to do here is capture someone`s home in a custom poster, not create what has traditionally been a home portrait.  If I had a classic style and used traditional media, I would not have any problem working the fine art angle.  But I make posters.

here is some more....Where is CraigL...he is so great at this!

I was just thinking of more words that describe your artwork...

glorious, vintage, intriquing, resplendent, Homey, comforting, yummy, beauty, radiant,       I wish I lived there,

Romantic home posters by steve

AND when people enter a home, and see the poster on the wall, what do you think the owner will say to them..."Hey, he can do your house on your own poster"

so call yourself,  Your home, Your poster

o.k. I am done.

Di

I`d love to have one for me when the time is right,

my two cents:

heritage home prints

legacyprints

address images

homeworks

home place portraits

good luck and I hope this helps, we went through a very long process to brand ourselves and when it was over not only did the name feel right but it seemed so obvious, and like, what took so long?

Appreciated your site and your visits to Norway, I lived in a place above Lofoten called Tromso for five years and still have dear friends and memories of those days and my two daughters now live in Oslo.

best,

+

I`m still waiting to hear what specifically defines a "house poster." :-) It`d be pointless to lock in a domain that confuses the target market, right? And, as pointed out, a poster is a $20 Day-Glo thing, whereas a work of art (by some name) is perceived quite differently.

I remember my parents commissioned a portrait of their house, done in black and white, line draw...almost like an etching. How big is a house poster, or how big could it be? Would it be a poster or a portrait...or something else?

Suppose a public organization wanted a historic "thing" to show someplace like in the historical society. Would it be a poster? If so, would it fit into the overall idea of preserving historical information?

Depending on how this plays out, for example, you could look at domains involving "homeportraits.com," or "architecturalcustomposters.com." There just needs to be a more refined....I dunno....mission statement?

The first two examples here are what would be a traditional house portrait, which are most commonly a black and white ink drawing or a watercolor painting.  Actually, most home portraiture is not as good as these and I took some time to find these examples from talented artists.  So I am not comparing my piece to what I would consider poor art.

The third example below is my work.  It is in my style of poster art.  See the difference.

Yes, posters can be cheap $10 glossy prints.  But a poster can also be a $7000 limited edition print.  Or it could be what I do, $20-$85 prints depending upon the size.

Now what defines a "poster"?  Is it the quality of the print or how much it costs?  No.  Is it the subject matter?  No.  Is it size?  No.  Is it the style of artwork?  No.

I bet we could come across MANY different definitions.  At it`s core explained with simplicity, a poster is a print of artwork.  That is what I am offering.  But "poster" also has other connotations.  It often has text within the design.  And it sometimes has common stylistic themes.  And yes, some people even think of them as cheap kid`s room art of rock stars.

But believe me, I am very confident that the word "poster" is not going to throw off my market.  I`ve been a poster artist for a while now.  I know.

What I am attempting to do is NOT "home portraits" (as seen in the first two examples), rather to combine my skills as a poster designer with the subject matter and business plan of capturing people`s houses.  Therefore, I used the term, "house poster".  I am differentiating myself.  And for the record, I don`t want to use the word "portrait".

Craig, are you playing devil`s advocate trying to illustrate that it is not a clear term?  Or do you really not understand it?  I know it`s not completely self-explanatory and I`m okay with that.

All that being said, houseposters.com is not even available as I originally explained.  And I`m not at all married to that being in the domain.  But I do like the term which could be part of my brand.  Currently I am liking posterofmyhome.com but I still want to explore more concepts.
