I am not actually new to Startup Nation but I`ve been impressed by eveyone else`s usernames that are related to their businesses or what they do.  It seems that even their usernames serve as marketing tools.  I`d like to do the same and am thinking of changing my username to something that is more fitting of my business.  My current username "Interplanet" is not related to my business but is a play off of a schoolhouse rock song, "Interplanet Janet."

Check out my marketplace listing or my website (www.sterlingpear.com) and let me know if you have any fun ideas for names that are more related to what I do.  I am a co-founder of a startup business that sells our own designs of upscale holiday decor and holiday organizational products.  I look forward to hearing your ideas.

Janet

How about "SterlingPear", the name of your business.  I`d be very surprised if someone else had it.  :)  But really, it is different, creative and somewhat intriguing.

Yes, I thought of using our company name, "Sterling Pear" but most people won`t know what Sterling Pear is about and will assume it has to do with jewelry or we sell pears, like an orchard or something.   I was thinking something like, "Holiday Designer."  The focus of my business is high-end holiday decorating products that make life easier, which is encompassed in our slogan, "Holiday Elegance Made Simple."  What do you think?

Another way to look at using your company name is that it goes towards your corporate branding. If you chose a user name of "Holiday Designer" then that does nothing for your corporate branding.

We chose the user name "Lizard Wisdom" because that is the name of one of our websites. It isn`t our company name, although that would work as well!

I can see your point.  Maybe using our company name as my username is good branding.  I will consider it.

Interplanet Janet... HA!!!!  She`s a galaxy girl!  (Yep, I actually did buy the  schoolhouse rocks DVD for my girls and they are HOOKED).  I`d do Sterling Pear for sure.  It`s all about the brand!  Do you think anyone that first sees "GrillCharmer" has any CLUE what I do???  NOPE! but it`s interesting enough that a good number of people want to find out... did you?  (that`s not rhetorical... just out of curiosity... did you?)

Great point.  People might be intrigued enough by the name to want to figure out what Sterling Pear is.

Yes, I knew about Grill Charms because I heard your pitch on the Startup Nation podcast!  You`re famous!

I`m an adict to their show and listen to each show at least two to three times on my iPod.  I can`t get enough!  I haven`t missed a show for the last 2-3 years.  I couldn`t have had the confidence to start my business without them!

Hi Janet,

I agree with using Sterling Pear.  I use JimSprouse because I am a freelance graphic artist and I am trying to get my name a out there.  I do need a photo though...

Thanks Janet!!!  If it was the first elevator pitch I did in Philly....  Oh, I`m so sorry you heard that!  If it was the "Where are they now show" then that`s okay because I kinda redeemed myself.  You`re already doing a great job, the name itself is intriguing.  Please keep us posted!!
