I have spent the last year developing a website while taking onboard some of the lessons within StartUp Nation...

It would be great if other Startup Nation folks could take a look, give your feedback and send the following to anyone that may have an interest...

Appreciate your help to get this rolling!!!! Would be really interested to see the impact our group could have on this...

A colleague has just launched a new web service that brings people who would make good business advisors together with entrepreneurs and early stage businesses.  It`s a free service and for advisors it`s a great way to discover new deal flow and perhaps get involved in a hot new company.

The site is called Advisor Garage: http://www.AdvisorGarage.com

Please sign up and forward this email to anyone that would make a good advisor or perhaps a business builder.

NOTE: All contact information is always kept private and all correspondence occurs within the system.

Thanks!

You really should look into StumbleUpon.  It`s a great way to get people to see your site for free.  www.stumbleupon.com

I`m seeing that Squidoo definitely is going out into the search engines, and is working with Google Ads. Seems very visible, paticularly if you have activity on your "lens" regularly.

Another thing is that this site (Advisor Garage) has an excellent opportunity for new, original content, which SEs tend to find more easily. You should maybe use something like Joomlah! or other blogging/content software to set up an area of "articles." The articles could be stories of interaction between advisors and advisees (is that a word?)

A very effective Web designer commercial around here has stories like that, of a business owner having problems. They turned to the designers, who then LIST two or three things they did, and solved the problem. Do the same in this area. It`s not a testimonial area, it`s "Hey, I used Advisor Garage because I had this problem. My advisor solved it this way. It was worth it, and now my business is going forward."

Andrew - congratulations on the launch of your service - I did notice that you`d started three different forum topics with essentially the same message; if you could focus that effort in a single topic, I`m guessing you`ll get a much better and coherent response.

Thanks Chuck.  Thought it crossed some of the different forums and was unsure the membership did.  Hope I didn`t cause any challenges?

Get rid of the "beta" in the logo. Do you know what "beta" means with respect to software development? Beta is the wrong word. It looks silly.

I signed up to their advertising model and so far have a 76% approval rating. The other upside of this site as an advertising vehicle is I can hit a tightly targeted group.

Thanks for the stumbleupon recommendation! Good call!

I am not sure if the layout issues are happening because I am opening your site with Mozilla Firefox or not, but it seems like a lot of layout items are out of alignment.

For instance:
- The blue box for "Advisor Quick Search" has a green stripe in the back. The right side of it is going beyond the blue box. It also shows a little of the gree stripe inside the photo of the couple.

- The two boxes "Advisors" and "Advice Seekers" are showing a little of the background color where the photo was placed.

- The same boxes contain shadows, which are very odd looking - hard to explain...open your site with Firefox and you will understand what I mean.

Good luck,

Andre

Hi Andrew,

Congrats on the launch of your business. I just noticed that Advisor Garage has a nice mention in an online Business Week piece called: "What Entrepreneurs Need to Know". Nice job!
