i run a roofing company and was doing really good off of local searches, but, over the last few months my serp has dropped.  there is only 1 company that can be found in the top 62 sites on google, the other 61 all promote the first one.  i am seeing my business drop drastically.  i contacted the other roofing company and the president gave me their SEO phone number.

has anyone else seen the search results change so drastically? is there something that i can do to combat this? and has anyone heard of lightninggate seo?

Sounds like that company hired a really good SEO team. If you are not familiar with SEO it might be best to hire someone so you don't end up hurting your site. And if they other sites are using a professional SEO company it will be hard to compete by yourself.

If you did want to take it on yourself just build backlinks and be sure to use a wide range of links with a wide range of anchor text.

Here are some other ideas to think about too:

If you get your website back to the first page that is great. But, also look into getting a local Google places listing and you can even get a video ranked in Google. If you have a Google places listing, a video advertising your service, and your website all on page 1 of Google you will have 3 different listings all on page 1 of Google. That is extremely powerful. There are other ways to get on page 1 of Google other than your website.

sphynx, Google has done some algorithm changes over the past few months. Have you done any SEO work on your website before? If these methods are considered shady such as keyword stuffing, aggressive exact match anchor text link building, etc., your rankings might be negatively affected.

Of course, since you noticed another company ranking significantly better for many keywords, it might also be the fact that their SEO is doing a really good job.

How much you can do to combat this depends on how much time do you have to spend on SEO. Is SEO your main source of income all these while? If it is and you don't have the time, it's time to consider outsourcing the efforts.

Here's what a good SEO will focus on after all the Google algorithm change:

  • Content marketing
  • Local SEO
  • On-site SEO audit
  • Avoid spammy tactics (if you think a tactic is spammy and not creating any value for Internet users, it probably is spamming.)
A recommendation from a colleague or a competitor might be good but it might also be that because all the rest are doing bad SEO, an average SEO effort is enough for them to do well too. Wink

Good luck!

Seo is a dynamic area even if you will find a few elements which have not entirely altered. Even though you nonetheless must get backlinks, and generally have, you will discover other alterations which have affected backlink worth, etc. The fundamentals are one thing we constantly speak about due to the fact they are fundamentally significant for what you need to do. You could have the small business of your dreams and rank quantity 1 in Google - but you will need that fire in your belly, first, and know how to preserve it there

Why would your competition give you his SEO secret? He must be really nice or really dumb, lol. Most SEO companies will only work with one client per area per industry. It's the ethical way to go.

Yeah, it sounds like the latest Google changes made your site drop. Do you have a Google Places listing? Do you have Google Analytics installed on your site? How do you know you are targeting the best keywords?

I can take a look at your site, no charge, if you would like. I'm a web designer and SEO professional. I specialize in local SEO for small to medium sized companies. Message me with your link.  :)
