Paula thank you

are you from Wisco to?

I am just trying to figure it out, to me it seems like I am just a flip flopper of ideas and thats never a good thing.

Don`t mistake brainstorming and analysis, for flip-flopping. Examining pros and cons, then rejecting things or changing the configuration isn`t at all the same as arbitrarily changing your opinions based on majority consensus.

Adam — no I`m not in Wisconsin, just very plugged into the "buy local" consumer movement and excited about the opportunities and money I`ve seen it bring people who`ve been previously unable to compete for whatever reason.

I also have to agree with Craig... brainstorming isn`t flip-flopping at all, to me it looks like you`re weighing the pros and cons of various ideas to get a feel for what`s most appropriate for you.

I`m always surprised that folks of your generation seem to be so hard on themselves for some reason or other. I`d say, you shouldn`t get down on yourself for flip-flopping, you should be proud of the fact you have so many ideas and the ability to think through them all. Not a  lot of people can say that!   :)

I`m with Craig.  I`m just getting ready to start a venture and for the last 20 years (literally!) I`ve "brainstormed" hundreds of ideas.  I just never had the courage to do something about it.  Even now as I thought I knew what I wanted to do an old friend of my wife`s has propositioned us with a partnership.  So yet again, I`m running the numbers and analysis on something new.  We are definitely going to do "something" but we are waiting on the sale of our home so we can relocate to where we want to live/work.  This is giving us a little more time for research.

Thanks!

adamc,

One of the things that makes this difficult is...."what does following your dream look like"

When you move too quickly to a business concept looking `out-there` for what you think might be possible, the the probability of missing your dream is really high.

Trust me on this.  38 years of business success has taught me one overridingly (not a word I guess) critical lesson....

The desire to succeed by owning your own business can not be satisfied by owning just any business.  Choosing the right business IS an important step.

Finding the perfect businesss begins with an inner exploration not an outer analysis.

You will want to authentically explore things like, your purpose, your passions,  what you love doing, what you are good at doing (it helps to engage others on this one).

What KIND of business and business model will work for you.

Do you want to big enterprise or are you more of a lifestyle guy?

IM is great but have you consider any other option...perhaps options that ignite you with excitement?

Here is the key.  When you have all of this right, the rest...the business concept, the product, the resourcees, the money, the clients...all show up exactly they way you need them to.

When you go at it from the outside in, all of this can end up being a struggle.

Make sense?

Steve
