Hello all,
Just saying hello from Maine. I am Mary and a mother of 2. I currently stay home with my children but am looking into finally taking a business idea of mine and turning it into reality. I have everything down on paper, business itself, products, location, target market (everyone), etc. What I don`t have is a clue where to start looking for funding. I was very pleased to have found this site. I am hoping to meet other business minded, rookies to veterans, that would be interested in sharing ideas, tips, tricks, the works!!
Much success to all,
xoxo Mary xoxo

Hi Mary :-)
Among the questions that come up repeatedly, here, funding (capital) is right up near the top. Everyone wants to start a business, and everyone wants someone to lend them money to do it.

Alright, so let`s turn it around for a second, to bring out some of what`ll likely help. Suppose I come to you...just as you are, right now, and say the same thing: "I`d like to start a business selling e-books, and I only need $1,000 to get started. It`ll cover the cost of software to format the books, and you`ll get a percentage return on the loan."

What would be your response?

Mary, welcome!
may I suggest you keep planning, and learning from great places like SUN, then find a way to make some sales without a location or inventory (big cash hogs).Target your market, and sell sell sell.
you can start with a website (free) and work from there. there is a ton of free online advertising sites you can use to drive traffic and generate sales.
go virtual first, it is near free and can generate a cash flow which can be bootstraped into more.
do you really want to start with a debt load that will eat any early profits?

Hi Mary,

Flying around and read your post.... I too am a mother of 2 small children, and depending on your biz idea, you may be able to"get creative" to start with $0 down... I started with a free blog and used my design skills, then $7 monthly website and offered custom design services, networked online and my business moves... today I have expenses to  build my product, paper, pens, art supplies, printing and other expenses-- but I literally started with $0 down and make part time income --now-- The Merry Bird...pen, ink and design has been flying online for two years and I hope growing stronger. Can you afford not to try? Desire, Patience, and Hope is all you need!

What is your product?

Mary,
It sounds like your have your hands full with 2 children, entrepreneurl hopes and I imagine a lot more. But there is a lot of opportunity out there for women that want to start their own business. To start with I would look on  the Small Business Administrations web site in your area. There are special programs just for women that help with financing, business plans etc. There are also some grants offered through lenders.I have helped several start their first business and would be glad to help you in any way I can. Message me here on SUN if I can help.
