Hi there, my name is Peggy and I just found this site this morning at about 6 a.m. and I have been reading it for about 3 hours straight.
I also have a small business that I operate out of my home.
I designed a Dorm Room Privacy Screen for my daughter that is inexpensive, weighs only 5 lbs and made of corrugated paper (yes, Cardboard!!!) Everyone in her dormitory wanted one when I sent it to her. It is called "Private Spacers."
Right now, I sell it on Ebay (in the search box, type in "Dorm Room Privacy")  I`m the one from Memphis.
I`m looking for ways to really "get this out there" on a very shoe string budget because I am also a Middle School Teacher!!

I think you have a wonderful idea. I wonder if there is a way to wholesale these to college book stores? Another idea is to advertise in the college news paper. Run an ad in the classified section it is a lot cheaper.

Best of Luck

Hi there, Winston2,
Gosh, I am SO EXCITED to get a reply!!!

I tried the college newspaper route - just 2 inquiries - no sales. . . seems like college kids are just tethered to the computer and don`t read!
And the college bookstores??? Tried that!  Sent out emails with really good copy (I am a former copywriter for newspaper!) They all told me that they are hooked into some mega-college bookstore supplier. . . and because I didn`t have mega advertising or trade-show dollars, they were not interested.
My most memorable event:  When Hurricane Katrina hit, I sent 15 of these to
a Doctor in New Orleans who set up a make-shift clinic in a school gym!! I sent
them at NO COST and PAID THE SHIPPING!  They had to be sent to a neighboring
town, because there was NO WAY to get them to New Orleans via mail or FEDEX or UPS.

But, again, I`m really glad you saw this.

I`m trying to find maybe a radio station with an entrepreneur show and maybe I can call in, since school will be back in session in a couple of weeks.

So, listen, send the following links to Ebay to any and everyone you know!

Hello Kathy. . . again!

I checked your site out. . . it is really cool!  I used to work
for a company that sells American Flags and all kinds
of flags and banners,  so I can really appreciate this.

Welcome Peggy - Great idea! My daughter is now a soph at Indiana U and was in a small dorm room - co-ed of course - and the kids leave their doors open constantly. No problems, but this sounds like something parents would purchase in a heartbeat.  Also, if you could get your printer to put school logos on the screens when ordered, they`d likely be more attractive (I believe).  Having dealt with numerous universities, they are not "business oriented"-academia is another world. But, I do have some thoughts on getting the word out - but it would mean possibly sharing your profits.  If you want to discuss, please contact me through my profile.  Have you thought of the number of summer camps that have 12 - 20 kids in one large room?  Just another potential target.  Rick

Hi duffymac,
Thanks for replying. . . the logo idea is a good one, but I have 2 buy these 500 at
a time, so that might not work for me.. . I don`t even KNOW 500 college kids,
let alone at one college!! LOL!

Appreciate your input!

This site is SO EXCITING!!

500 logo`d at Indiana U might be too few!  And the same with other major universities.  Again - write me through my profile and I can share my experience of selling logo`d 5.5" x 4" career guides that started distribution through one source and then were purchased and given away by  the Career Counseling offices. Outsiders have lousy ideas. Students have the best ideas - in those environments.
When I moved my daughter ino the dorm, there had to be 100 students who used a service that caters to moving students from home to school. From boxing at home to literally hauling the stuff to any school. I never knew it existed, but after talking, found out they did very well. And who says you only target colleges. It`s the high school students who are making the transition into dorms!  Second year it`s apts and Greek houses.  Rick
