:-) Hi Curi....
What does a freight brokering agent do? And maybe you can explain, what does "FOB" actually mean, if something is being shipped from China? (Ran into this the other day, in regard to our own business planning.)

Hello CraigL :)

A Freight Broker is Someone who basically finds trucks for companies.

We also keep track of where the truck is, handle problems as they arise and so on.

An Agent is someone who works under a Brokers license but has their own customers. sometime they work out of the brokers office or have their own office, or many have home based operations.

Freight On Board.  Usually the seller will designate whether it is F.O.B. at his store/plant or if it is F.O.B. your destination. This determines who is liable for the freight risks/costs.

Okay...so F.O.B. is what....like COD? In other words, when I get a price quoted as FOB to my store, that`s the price of the materials, plus the cost of shipping my order to the final destination of my store? Right?

Yes.....CraigL, Expect unlike COD its not necessarily pay on deliverly. but it would be your cost in this situation.

Curi, Thank you for explaining this FOB in a way I can understand. I think I`ve heard the term for years, but only recently did it have concrete application to what I`m actually doing. You`ve helped in a decision-making process, and that`s excellent! :-)
