I would leave.

I just say this because I found myself in this sort of situation several years ago. It ran me into the ground emotionally and mentally. And then the owner tried to blame me for things.

Just get out. No job is worth your sanity. Go start your own business before this one leaves you too drained to do it.

You are investing your spirit to a company that is not yours .. that type of energy should be geared toward your own ownership. If your ambition goes unnoted and everyone is unhappy, it is not  an healthy invironment for you.

Life is way to short..follow your heart..follow your dreams!

The stress isn`t worth it... unless you`re trying to learn all the things NOT to do, while you`re there.

No, you didn`t make a mistake.  You gained an experience.  When you someday have your own employees, you`ll reflect on this current situation and you will be all the better for it.

Go start your own company and follow your dreams!

LOL! I read this and thought I`d accidentally posted it in my sleep..! -D I`m in the same situation EXCEPT....for one crucial difference: I`m working part-time, and our own business is growing.

I`ve had arguments all my life with most people who want to be responsible, about the value of "quality of life." I`ve made countless decisions that I`ve second-guessed, worried about, argued about, but almost never regretted (in the long run). Every one of those types of decisions has been based on whether or not the result would make me happy.

Most people I`ve been arguing with tell me that my happinesss has nothing to do with anything. Instead, it`s my task to get a "real job," have assets, investments, and to be a normal person. I should fit in with what everyone is doing, and not be such a problematic maverick.

Where I`m at, it`s the same situation. The owner has been getting more disorganized, and finally reached a point where it`s nearly impossible to accomplish anything. I was brought in to organize things, but I`m only allowed to organize them the way the owner wants. (Contradiction in terms.)

That`s okay. I leave at the end of the day and get back to the real business of growing IB Designs, USA. That`s the future! Working for someone else is the short-term. It`s a quick fix, but won`t provide a long-term solution.

Well, I`m going to take a different position on this... maybe you have done this but, I would first talk to this guy. In his terms. IF money is his language, you should try explaining you solution in terms he values... by doing this, you`ll increase your bottom line or you can add value, or you can make more sales... which ever applies.

May be have tried, may this guy is a blockhead...but if improvements can be made that help you as well as him (and other employees) why not try to get tem done. I don`t know what being #2 in the company grants you as far as control, but assuming the owner put you in taht position for a reason, he may value your opinion.

Cutting and running seems to be a knee jerky reaction to me. I know if I were in the owner`s position, I would want to know if things could be made better and how.

Roland, if this guy is anything like some of the people I`ve worked with, I`d suspect it`s a much deeper and psychological problem. It`s one of those situations where someone intellectually believes they should get better organized, so they hire someone to help. That assuages their vague sense of guilt. And that gives them a blank check to continue doing what they`re doing.

They can say, "Well, it`s not MY fault I`m disorganized! After all, I`ve got someone who`s supposed to be fixing things. You just can`t find good help these days."

It comes down to being a control freak, but not accepting or acknowledging that problem. So they create a straight-line org chart, where everyone reports to the boss. The result is chaos....and eventually, bankruptcy.

Yeah, but Roland ... why put all this energy into working for someone else? I`d only do it if there was SERIOUS personal gains that I could make.
