I have been trying to find someone to manufacture adhesive tape with a print on it, such as polka dots, etc.  I haven`t been able to find anyone who can provide this service.  I don`t need packing tape - I need something like electrical tape - Any ideas - I have contacted several people from Alibaba with no success.

why not use stickers? does it have to be electrical tape, industrial? Several places offer round stickers at all different sizes:

I need the tape to wrap around a cane or crutches and I want it to be continuous. I want it to cover the whole thing.

I`m sure you checked 3M, and I`m not sure about your specific app, but I`ve found this a great place to strart for a lot of "tape" (they`re the monster for a real reason) http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/3M-SpecialtyTape s/SpcltyTape/ and they have vendor lists you can use too.

And I like this company as they have US and asian mfg (ask for Paul or Jimmy)
http://www.chuspkg.com/ ... they are friendly and will answer your quesitons (I`m not even sure if what you want is possible; maybe an overlay or built-up tape that`s opaque on a base product)

Anything is possible!   I have checked with 3M on partnering on this product.  They have the technology and the "big guns" to get it done.  However, they will not even talk with me until I have a provisional patent, which I am working on.  By the way, what if I can`t get a patent?  Should I give up or continue with finding a supplier for my product?

It sounds like it would be a design patent, since you`re not actually making the tape, just the design on the tape. Those are easy to get b/c as long as your design doesn`t exactly match one already in existence, you get it. So make those polka dots unique! Problem is, if someone changes the design in the slightest, they won`t be infringing on your patent. There are lots of patent lawyers on this site, they can tell you more abt this than I can. Good luck.
