This is a big hello to everyone here in startupnation!. An unbelievable artist (CampSteve) suggested this site to me and I can`t wait to get invloved!

My name is Will and I recently started a business with my dad offering merchandise (i.e bags, pillows, placemats, etc.) embedded with unique images. I`m really excited because we`re getting ready to make some big moves and this seems like the perfect place to help us get this business off the ground.

I`m looking forward to meeting some new people, hearing some new ideas and learning as much as I can about promoting and selling new products. Thanks for your time and have a good one.

Just a quick hello before I get into perusing through all the good posts.

In a former life, I was a tool and diemaker and an technical instructor teaching machine trades and CAD drafting.

Graphic design has always been an interest and for the past three years, I`ve been writing in stone.

We do pet memorials, cemetery monuments, all kinds of engraved rock and HUGE boulder projects (with names and or addresses) and stone signage.

Business has kept me from updating the web site:  http://www.jarsa.net but for now it`s secondary since word of mouth has been our greatest advertising asset.

I`ve been lurking on SUN for the past two months or so and have learned lots.

I`d be interested in hearing from others who are into home-based, family-based, DEBT FREE business ventures.

Hey there, Jim :-D
I was just reading your above, and the tagline came to mind, "Yes it IS written in stone!" LOL!!

Y`know how so many people will say an idea is subject to modification, "Well, y`know, it`s not like it`s written in stone!" What a great parlay you`d have.

Are you proceeding on the memorials?

Craig-

I also do a little writing on the side and the name of my column is "Written in Stone"...you can browse the  back issues at http://www.franktalkonline.com.  Don`t confuse me with the magazine`s editor Jim Frank whose photo is on the cover.

Here`s a link to the onsite boulder engraving I did just this week http://www.jarsa.net/ST_Finished.JPG.  The numerals on this address stone are five inches high.  The wild turkey image is approx. 13 x 17 inches in size.

Here`s a larger job done three weeks ago.  This boulder was five feet high by nearly seven feet wide http://www.jarsa.net/HH_Finished.JPG

Our work is very diverse...fifty-dollar jobs (pet memorials) here and there, all the way up to fifteen-hundred dollars + for some of the bigger projects.

I also do cemetery lettering (final resting dates) and donor brick walkway projects as well.  We`ve been busy this summer...but, of course, it has taken us three years and a lot of prayer to get to this point.  We`ve been blessed abundantly and are thankful for that.

During the summer months, a lot of the work is on the road, but a good portion of it is done in my home shop.  I absolutely love working from  home.

Thanks for the encouragement.

Jim

That`s very cool..! One of the fascinating aspects of life, in my view, is looking around at common, everyday stuff, and contemplating where it comes from? Who does that?

I was reading a novel involving some construction work, and one of the peripheral characters was a wealthy guy who`d made his money in Port-a-Potties; moving them around and maintaining them. Someone has to do that, right? And this guy had made millions.

We don`t ordinarily think of stone carving, although we see it everywhere. It`s great to meet people who do these kinds of things, running these types of businesses. :-)

Ditto on the "Who does that?" mentality.

Even since a young little whip, I grew up with the "How was that made?" question always in the back of mind.  That curiosity drew me into the world of manufacturing at the ripe old age of 12 and it`s still been an addiction some thirty years later.

On the other hand, it tends to be a curse because I can`t look at things "for what they are". I always envision the blueprints, the tooling...such as dies, molds, jigs and fixtures required to make those things.

I am absolutely fascinated with almost any type of mechanical equipment and how it works.

Note the new tag line...thanks for the idea!
