Hey folks,

After several posts, I think I am able to pose my problem correctly for best feedback. I have created and operated 3 separate businesses. I have good skill in finance, operations and business development.

I want to enter into a new business. My problem: no hidden life passions, no hobbies, no solid ideas. This means no specific business focus.

I have been to bizbuysell. I have been to career coaches. I have been to entrepreneur.com. I have been to Barnes and Nobles dozens of times, looking at the mags and the entrepreneur books. I have even seen a couple business brokers.

Part of the problem is that I believe I can`t get out of my own way, but I realize this, and continue to search every day. Besides therapy, I would appreciate any original ideas.

Many thanks... Lee

Lee,

I would just say to  yyourself what do you want to do?  Do you want to run a busness yourself?  ie start from scratch and build it.  Or do you want to go  into somelthing that is proven a franchise where they will teach you what you need to know to run the business and then you take over.  I myself own a franchised restaraunt.   I am currently in the process of selling it. ie I have put itup for sale.  The main reason besides wanting to be closer to family, is that I coming from the IT career, the restarant was something that does not fit my long term goals.

This is something you  may want to think about long term goals.

Hopefully that helps

Hey Lee:

I would encourage you to physically get together with other entrepreneurs in your area and start brain storming with them.  Most groups of entrepreneurs are filled with people who have good ideas and as a result are always creating business opportunities.  You may even find a passion you didn`t know you had.  In the meantime,  your experience can add value to any entrepreneur group, a good give and take.  If you need help locating a group near your area, let me know.

You need to visit the home page of this site and review the ten steps to starting a business. Step one (Creating a Life Plan) may be the kick you need to get you started. I think if you plan your life a bit that direction may lead you to what you are looking for.

Good Luck,

John

I have not used this personally, but my husband, who just completed a Master`s degree in clinical counseling, recommends this site to help people discover their strengths and weaknesses.  It costs$9.95 and a few minutes of your time to get a summary of strengths, weaknesses, and careers that fit your strengths and weaknesses.

How about doing a vivid vision?  Keep a pad by the bed and when you wake up start putting down how you`ll spend your day.  Be very, very  specific.

You know, some people start businesses just to sell them ;0  Has nothing to do with passion, etc.   It`s possible that you`re a serial entrepreneur and it`s time to go find a business you can make more profitable or set up to manage and then sell.

Others start businesses to make money and then give it all to the community.  There are so many reasons to start a business other than passion!

There are many business owners who are very passionate about their business and hate the business end of business.  I bet they`d love to have someone with your experience get them more sales.

Just a few thoughts.
