Interesting example, Kathy. I`m seeing that adding noise may not be the best solution, as there`s all the extra color pixels. Instead, the "holes" are supposed to let in the blue underlayer...? That being said, the effect on the leaves is totally different than anything I would`ve thought of before reading this particular part of the thread! It`s really cool..!

I guess it`s true, what my father used to say all the time. "The old ways are the best ways....time-tested, handed down from father to son...." LOL! I wonder what`d happen if I smeared egg yolk on my LCD panel? Hm...maybe I`ll test that out, too......

Kathy,

Important note: If your software has this option, make sure the "monochromatic" option is checked when adding noise in this instance. Otherwise, you may want to make your "gold" layer in black-and-white first (see earlier posts by Craig for any number of tips on THAT!). Also, this is an instance where the computer is a hindrance because of its inability to be "expressive" or "imperfect," so it may be necessary to start SMALLER than your intended size, and then ENLARGE and replicate a portion of the gold layer for more texture and "hole-age." Here is an earlier stage swatch; get the color scintillation going first, and then select your best area and make like an alchemist!

Guy, thanks for helpin` out. (Kathy and I know each other and have been lost in playing with this new technique!) LOL!! In fact, PSP does allow for monochromatic noise addition.

Thanks for the swatch example...! That actually helps a lot! What I found was that using a paint brush would work, but I had trouble constraining it. Then I realized I could select some vector text or an object, make some new blank layers, and as I selected one of those, the same original selection would hold the paintbrush tip within the image borders.

This is totally cool...! LOL! I would assume, Guy, that we can all send you our regular daily work to do while we mess around with this technique you`ve explained? After all, there`s only so much time in the day, and work really cuts into my layin` around time...or my messin with Paint Shop time...to paraphrase a comedienne I heard.

Looks good, Kathy! On REAL WALLS, too!

I`ll have to forward your site to a good friend who`s a Navy Mom right now.
Our sons graduated high school together and her`s is at Annapolis.
