Any advice on where to find legit small business grants to volley for? Proposal strategies and other advice would be helpful.

As with many funding strategies, it depends upon the amount of capital you are seeking and the type of business you intend to create.

I`d start at the local level with the City/County economic development group.

AS far as the applications, I can tell you that even a perfectly written application won`t guarantee that you receive a grant (thus a grant preparer can`t either). However, a poorly written one will almost guarantee that you don`t - so do seek the help of professionals - once you identify where you want to apply.

Thanks for your reply. Forgive me, I`m a novice at grant searching.

When you say City/County level where would be a good place to start looking within the city? Local gov. sites?

A professional would be useful to me at this point, as time is of the essence.

Kristine,

It`s been my experience that almost every governmental group has a section for "economic development". While they may not have a program that works for you directly, they usually have a pretty good idea what is available, since part of their function is to attract business.

This link might help you find the economic development agency in your part of Connecticut.

Thanks much Robert -

Economic Development. Small Business. Women and Small Business. There are places to search. I see.

I`ve been searching several places online  and  almost scammed twice by potential "specialists"/grant writers. Thank god for BBB reviews and intuition.

I know better than to think this is a quick route - so I hope to find the appropriate grant for my small business and work it out. I`ll check out the site you offered.

And - Elid

I will check out the article on Sun. Thanks!

You have to watch out for grant writers because nothing comes with a guarantee. I would look into some Grant Writing Courses. Plus, you want to look at the purpose of the grant. Some can be for redeveloped areas, and some could be for financing for that redeveloped area.

Bird,

I raise money by helping people. It is a lot of fun that people read your signature link by participating in discussions. Nothing is ever a quick fix because you will have to go back and fix it again. Although my link looks appealing, you want to have alternatives too. Put as much on the table as possible, and look at all your options. I hope your grant searching mission becomes lucrative for you.
