FEB 2012 Google has updated the PageRank.

http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=2394845%22

Everyone is so excited about it... what are your thoughts?  Does having PR really matter so much? does it really make a difference? where and how?

In my opinion it does make a difference in your online reputation of the website. Having a PR higher than your competitors is always good!

Google's PR (PageRank) has been the factor which set google apart from the other search engines. PageRank plays an important part in how your website will rank on a particular search engine. Basically every time a website links to your website it casts a vote for your site. The higher the PageRank of the site that is linking to you the more weight the Vote carries. In Effect each site will pass on some of its PageRank also know as link juice. Google however recommends that sites that pay for a link have the nofollow attribute in the hyperlink. Adding the NOFOLLOW tag will prevent the link from passing on Page Rank

Google's PageRank doesn't have as much weight as it used to in their website ranking algorithm, but it still does play a minor role. Your PageRank is a good indicator of how many sites are linking to you and how much authority is "rubbing off" from their sites on to yours. I still look at it because it's kind of fun to track your progress with your site. I've heard it's pretty hard to get from PR4 to PR5.

The analysis out of it done is nice and many of them would have got their site PR raised and it has given them a lot of benefits.
