Yes, immediately when I joined my company, I helped them set up Google local. It's really easy, just sign up, and Google will mail you a verification code. This should take about a week. And once you receive it, enter your verification code and you're done! 

I'd say Google Local gives customers another reason to trust/believe your company actually exist as well.
