I have just received an invitation to Google Analytics Feature for one of my clients for whom I maintain computers in the office as well as the website.
I would like to know if anyone has some pointers and suggestions on utilizing this new Analytic Tool.
All help is greatly appreciated.

I haven`t used the analytics product but i have used the full blown server product and i love the URCHIN line (which google bought and turned there paid service into analytics).

The package originally ran for $500 a month at some levels but even then it was worth every penny (so say early adopters).

I can help you out with questions about the reports, and general web stats questions but as for the details pertaining to analytics you`ll have to find someone who actually has the service in place.

let me know what you need!

I don`t think anyone will know google`s new tool. Its just too new. I went to google.com/analytics and was just blown away. Looks like a no brainer to instal. So this is where all of google`s $ is going.  I used to pay to use web-stat on our site.

The most useful info we gathered was where our visitors were coming from. If we got a write-up in the Chicago Tribune, we could actually see a hot spot there.

The most important advice i could give is  ... make sure the marketing people will look at the information and learn how to navigate it. If the information sits in the IT department it can be fun to look at, but that`s about all.

Tomasz - I`ve had experience using the Urchin system pre- and post- Google acquisition, there`s not a lot of difference (which was ultimately the point).  You`ll get what`s close to an enterprise-level analytics package at no cost, which is certainly hard to beat.

The one caveat is that you`ve married your site data analysis to a potential advertising partner...there`s always going to be a bit of a fox in the henhouse issue with that.  Google`s business rests on providing the best possible advertising results for their clients, particularly when compared with competitive services - so if you`re getting your ad traffic and your site traffic analysis from the same place, the possibility exists for a conflict of interest.

That being said, it`s a good all-purpose solution, particularly if you don`t have concerns about that area of site traffic.

We use G/A for all of our clients. It`s very useful.  There is a lot of great data available and its free.  I like the marketing and content reports the best.

Google analytics is one of the top visitor footprint analysis website, its very useful if you would like to see the site's daily activity, Google has added a hand full of features like integrating the account with adsense to see how much you have made based on the visitor traffic data. They are so show the area of growth and losses, its really good to have service. The alert feature is very useful where you can see alerts for incidents like loosing visitor traffic in particular country. We kind of extend the dream of analytics to a next level buy providing a free online website worth estimation service for any websites in the world. check your website or any website to know how much they are making or how much they worth.

there are better tools out there, but if you want something relatively easy to use, turnkey to install and FREE, google analytics is a good place to start. it's not the most accurate, but will get you there 80% of the way.  other tools cost money
