One of the happiest memories I have as a child is gathering around the Thanksgiving dinner table and listening to everyone in our extended family share a statement of thanks. It`s interesting that I don`t recall any of the specific things that anyone, including myself, gave thanks for.

But what brings a joyful smile to my heart is just picturing all of us there, waiting for a few moments before digging into the turkey, stuffing, corn, mashed potatoes & pumpkin pie. And looking around the table.

I am thankful for my wonderful and supportive family. How about you?

After a long time of being out of touch, I`m thankful for having my family back in my life. This will be the first Thanksgiving after almost 10yrs of being with family again, even if we will be in different states.

My fondest childhood memories are the planning and preparation of the Thanksgiving dinner.  I`d follow my mom through the grocery store, filling the cart as she chose the perfect ingredients for the menu.  My memories haven`t anything to do with chopping onions and celery for stuffing or whether to include oysters, as it was our special time together.  Just the two of us creating memories; something that I would later grow to cherish.

I am thankful for my God who loves me most, my family who accepts me imperfections and all, and friends who remember the essence of who I am.

Aye - Thanksgiving - a truly unique, American holiday.  I remember watching the parades on TV and the smell of the turkey roasting.  Candied sweet potatoes - no one makes them like Mom.  They`re cooked to the soft-crack stage.

Thanksgiving was one of two holidays during the year when the table was set to perfection with a tablecloth and the full complement of flatware.  All the special silver dishes and the bone china platters and serving bowls and of course, the good dishes that were reserved for Thanksgiving and Christmas were used.

My mother was, and is, the maestro in the kitchen.  Now I can appreciate that not only were daily dinners all served on time, but the huge feast with all the extra fixings were set on the table with precise timing.  After my parents divorced, we children would have two different Christmas dinners:  one with Mom, one with Dad.  In contrast to my mother, my father, a good cook in his own right, and a brilliant computer scientist, would schedule to the minute when each dish for Christmas dinner should start cooking and be finished.  Invariably, two or three vegetables would make it to the table ten minutes after we started eating.  And then someone would remember that the olives (black and green) were still in the can in the fridge.  It made me realize how natural it  was to my mother to ensure that the entire meal was on the table all at once.

I`m thankful for my entire family and for the restored relationship I have with my only child, my daughter.  Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
