Vincent -

A good start with the title change - it factors heavily in search engine rankings. And I agree on the note about meta tags - very rarely used anymore by the big engines because they were abused.

Two other points:

I`ve run across some great articles breaking down Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and posted them to our site. Check out www.hickorybay.com/resources/information.asp - espcially the one entitled "Search Engine Submission Tips".

Product listings, especially ones created by shopping carts, are tough for search engines to pick up.  Most search engines ignore the variables in a URL - all the stuff after the ?. This means that your product display pages don`t show up more than once. There are some techniques to get around this, but they require coding. Another solution to provide the engines a specific sitemap file that includes all these product pages. The info on Google sitemaps is at http://www.google.com/webmasters/sitemaps. I`ve done a few, so if you need help, let me know.

I would recommend discussing with your hosting company whether or not that particular cart has SEO mod that will allow you to use product name in the URL.

CubeCart - Is an example of a cart that does have a seo mod and here are some sample URLs.

NO SEO
http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/shop?act=viewProd&productI d=99

WITH MOD
http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/shop/washing-drying/meguiars-0 0-hi-tech-wash/p_99.html

You can see there is a lot more info in the URL to be picked up by the search engines.  Just my 2 cents!

I believe we’ve found the problem!!! Thank you all for your postings, phone calls, and time. It isn’t fixed yet, but in short, I should upgrade. Your comments provided me with just enough knowledge to track down the problem with the help of my hosting service guys… Thanks all. The SUN Community shines bright!
