Maybe driving qualified traffic would be what is difficult.

I guess you could just run around posting links everywhere, but who needs traffic that isn`t qualified?

Note:  Apparently you have to be special to use html signatures...

Well, that`s part of the SEO process.  It`s easy to draw traffic in but to draw solid traffic in is not difficult but it is a lot of work to learn and implement the SEO and marketing tools/tricks into a site.

Google filters out this traffic in the link:sitename.com command.

For example enter site:startupnation.com into the google search box and you`ll get a list of all the qualified sites.

P.S. You have to dig a bit to find the signature section of the options.  Also, I`ve had this account since just about the beginning of this site.

Your signature is not html for starters.

By qualified traffic I mean people who are able and willing to buy your product or service.

Not just any visitor to your site is qualified traffic.

There`s really no way to determine who is willing to buy your product and who isn`t from traffic stats.  You can get information like this from mailing lists and whatnot.  It`s basically a black and white traffic stat.  You have real traffic and others that are generated from search bots, spammers, etc.

I never said you could learn that from stats.  The argument you presented was traffic to your site is easy to get.

I simply pointed out that the statement you argued would probably be better stated as QUALIFIED traffic is difficult to get.

I would be interested in finding these magical mailing lists and whatnots, however...

Ahh my bad.  I misunderstood that comment.  My point was that driving traffic to a site isn`t that hard.  It`s just that it`s a lot of work it`s even more work if one isn`t familiar on how to do it.  I was countering someone`s post that it was impossible/difficult to drive good traffic to a site.

Just add a mailing list link to a site.  That`s the best way to not only get a feel for your customer base but it`s a great way to keep in touch with them.  One should mail the mailing list base at  lease once a month depending on the business.

As far as I understand, most people hate mailing lists.

Unless you really give them a reason to join, they are not going to.  No one wants more email than they already have.

There are huge lectures on getting your inbox to empty.  No one wants more email.

I could be wrong, but every time I somehow get an email I didn`t want or from a site I joined, I unsubscribe myself immediately and then add them to my junk mail.

That`s one of the reasons RSS feeds were invented and are used.  It`s part of the whole Web 2.0 discussion/argument.  It`s also why Wordpress is such a valuable tool as they incorporate RSS feeds into blog posts.

Many other blogs use rss feeds.  It is not a wordpress monopoly.

Here we go with the web 2.0...
