Do you always buy generic to save? Or do you always by name brands?
I myself will buy generic products to save money but I have found some products are never a good idea to go generic. My list includes; q-tips & apple juice......you?

We try the generics, then if they`re really and truly the same as a brand name, we stick with them. Otherwise, if they`re not as good, we keep the brand name.

We make our own mac and cheese, along with a number of other things. But as for brand names, we don`t use anything other than Bounty paper towels. The others just don`t measure up, and cost us more in the long run by falling apart or not absorbing. Paper products seem to be like this, where brand name products are demonstrably better.

Another area is in cookware. We don`t have a particular brand, but we always buy some sort of brand known for its quality and durability. So we have Farberware, T-Fal, Lodge, and so forth.

What`s really sad is the number of branded companies who sold out long ago to who-knows-who. The end result is a previously well-known brand that`s now basically junk. Sunbeam, Singer, Bell & Howell, are just a few examples.

Oh totally on the Q-Tips! The cheap ones just kind of bend in half when you use them.

I buy a lot of generic food items and cleaning supplies. I also buy "Target brand" on a lot of things. But my soaps/shampoos/lotions and laundry items are all brand-specific, because I`m very particular about smells.

We buy generic on foods such as pasta and vegetables. I mean aren`t they the same product or does your local grocery store have their own vegetable farms?

Depends on the cost difference and the items.  Food items and grocery store items, I try to save by planning my meals around what is on sale that week and if you plan right, you can get brand names for less than generics a lot of times.
Clothing is where I struggle the most.  I refuse to pay $80 for a pair of jeans or $100 for a purse, but there are people that do.  But I`m not in debt and they  probably are.  Who`s smarter?
