Option 1: buying a list  - yeah / nay?

Option 2: What do you do to get a substantial list of leads for industry specific groups and businesses.

Can you contact the chamber of commerce, sba, or go to trade associations?
What do you do?

A good way to find quality leads is to visit Fast Pitch (www.fastpitchnetworking.com).  It`s a website that lets you post your business profile and matches you to other businesses you are looking to connect to.  I liken it to eHarmony for Business....

Aaron,

You could try fastpitch. I`ve tried it but the problem for me is that the list of Industries they provide is somewhat generic, which is generally the case with these type of sites. For example, they do not have a category called Education or Translation services which might be two good ones for you. Likewise, for my specific niche of CRM software, there is no match, only software. Software could mean anything so the so called `hot leads` they say are waiting for me are virtually useless.

You could also try www.salespider.com, they work under the same basic concept as fastpitch.

While you at these sites, try clicking on some of the Google ads posted there. I notice a lot them that promote B2B Leads.

The SBA probably won`t be much help. It is a Lobbist organizaton. Trade Associations don`t just hand out the list of their members. You have to infiltrate the organization by becoming a member and taking advantage of whatever networking opportunities they may offer. The chamber of commerce might be of some limited assistance in the sense that they may have a list of businesses that are registered with them in the local community.

Many of our customers rent mailing lists and email lists. You can also buy CD`s that have hundreds, if not thousands of companies listed on them by vertical industry. The problem with all of these sources is always quality, not quantity.

For your specific niche, it may take a lot of digging and searching to find a source that is relevant.

Best of Luck,
Kregg

This is what I do:

1.  Set up a capture page with direct response style copy.

2.  Article marketing, e-zine advertising, PPC, blogging, forum posting, public relations, putting up book reviews on Amazon.com, to get traffic to my website.

3.  Interested people sign up for more information, and I get only interested warm leads for what the products I sell, while my autoresponder handles my messages.

Hope that helps!

Direct Response Marketing is definately the way to go. That way you actually speak to people who are interested, not tire kickers.

Has anyone tried billboard/outdoor marketing? I have been tossing the idea around of wrapping a vehicle to promote an IT company I do business with. But I don`t know if that will have a good ROI.

I would try all of the above, I don`t think there is a right answer here I would try all methods especially free methods until you find out what works for you.
