Hi Katherine,
Our company ran into the same problem for our client,
WholesaleKeychain.com. We started off with 3-4 orders a day but when it got to 15+ we were having issues keeping up; keep in mind we are a web development company...not a supply chain management.
We researched many fulfillment companies for the client. Our favorites ended up being
www.webgistix.com,
www.denisonmailing.com,
www.ifssolutions.com,
www.pickandship.com,
www.prafulfillment.com.
Webgistix seemed too busy to work with a small guy, ifsolutions seemed the most professional and cost effective in the long run...but need to bring sales up over 50+ a day first. Pickandship.com was great, kind of like a Ma & Pa Shop, they beat the competition by 50%, low set up fees, and great customers support. In general here were the average prices of all of them:
Locations/ orders Base Rate Additional Pieces
1 – 10 $3.00 .10¢ ea.
11 – 19 $2.75
20 – 29 $2.25
30 –39 $
2.00
40 – 49 $1.75
50 –99 $1.50
100 – 299 $1.00
At the end of this 2 month research project we ended up jumping on craigslist, hiring someone in house. Not only was she hired for fulfillment but for customer support, sales, and other administration tasks. It is working out great and I would recommend trying that.
Just because you work out of your apartment does not mean someone will not also work out of your apartment with you. Just put it out in the ad and see what response you will get...I would guess a pretty favorable one.
