Full credit to Craig for making me think of this post. Many of us have random business ideas that sound neat but we may not want to pursue for one reason or another (i.e. not our passion etc.).

Here`s mine. Feel free to use and share your "unwanted business ideas.

1. Personal Grill Trainer - Outdoor grilling for me is one of those things that I love to see done well but creates stress for me when I`m doing it for others. Do I have the heat right? Will this taste good? What if I burn the burgers?

Solution? - 3- 1 hour sessions with my own Grill coach. He/she e-mails me the ingredients to buy and comes over to teach me exactly how to grill up fantastic burgers, steaks, and signature recipies on my own grill.  He gets paid $50 or so for his time and I`m ready for my next big cookout.  Would be a cool gift from a spouse.

Again, feel free to share ideas.

Excellent Idea!! And hey, it`s not "my" idea to have free business ideas! In fact, that`d be a cool topical section for the forums here, wouldn`t it? There are countless ideas people spin off as they`re working on their own passion, company, and business. It`s a shame that some of those ideas just disappear.

Then people could look at the ideas sort of as a fun thing, and maybe see immediately why the idea wouldn`t work, or be too expensive/costly, etc. When it was all said and done, those folks who are looking for an idea could just grab one from the "rack" and go build a business for it. :-)

Great Idea Craig! :)

I have always had big ideas, but they did, seem to eventually disappear.  There were so many things I had to do, to start. And feeling overwhelmed and not knowledgeable enough of where or how to start, I guess held me back. Kudos to those that move forward!

I fell into the business I`m in, because of a relationship.  But, one of my dreams became the Internet.  To take our business there, and compete with the hundreds of thousands of websites that also sell jerky. It`s been a great journey.  And it keeps me excited, with new ideas!

And visiting Start Up Nation, I do learn a lot from others. So, posts those ideas. We all can learn from them, and create more ideas.

I`m all for a topical section of "parked" or "free" business ideas. Seems like most entrepreneurs are just idea generators and it seems a shame that many ideas go by the wayside.

Here`s another:

My son is 4 years old so we`re constantly on the children`s party circuit.  Problem is that the ideas are stale - inflatable bounce parties , clown, magician, petting zoos, or "gulp" girl`s princess parties.  Boys are really left out and based on what I see parent`s spend on kid`s parties this is a very lucrative market.

Idea?  Seargant Sam parties (or come up with another name).  Military seargant shows up in a camouflage humvee in full uniform with plastic helmets, military trinkets for the kids.  He sets up a fun obstacle course for the kids, puts them through the paces to become real soldiers and then leads them on a fun "adventure" mission.  Kids get medals at the end and it`s all non-violent of course (i.e no guns).  My son and his friends would go bananas over a concept like this.

This could be a great opportunity for a veteran!

LOL!! That`s another great idea! The ONLY thing I could see as a problem would be all this nonsense about how we can`t have kids running around pretending to be violent. I remember when I was a kid it was automatic to play War, Cowboys & Indians (we called them Injuns, in those days), and Car Crash.

Then again, there are all those paint-ball fields around, so maybe violence is still an acceptable American past-time. :-) Even without the guns though, "Sergeant Sam" would be fantastic! They could have tents, "K Rations," and learn how to use an entrenching tool..! I like it! Oh...and then there`d be the walkie-talkies, "C-Company," and "D-Company....."

One idea I had awhile ago and I thought it could work...

I saw a store in Japan once that was targeted at females ages 30-40.. selling products and food they would use. However, the store had so many features and things going on inside, people would come in flocks just to be there.

I thought, wouldn`t it be great if we took the Barnes and Noble model to a grocery store? A classy place with things to do. There are many women who spend time in grocery stores when they don`t want to. They see the same faces during the day. They`re mothers and wives. What if we had a supermarket set up with a coffee shop, place to relax for awhile, a place to test recipes for a small price, a place for the kids to play... ya know..

Going to the market suddenly wouldn`t be so rough.

In the end, I wouldn`t really endeavor to start a company like this, as I don`t have the expertise with that market. But it would surely be cool.

Long ago, the market place was indeed a center of social networking. Recreating that atmosphere wouldn`t be difficult, but I wonder, given the profit margins in food sales, whether or not it would be financially sustainable.

Good point. Interesting concept though and I`ve seen similar combinations with laundromats.  In Austin we have a laundromat that also has a gym under the same roof so you get to work out while you do laundry. Kill two birds with one stone so to speak.

I think the grocery store idea would have to be specialize in high end/healthy foods and cater to liesure interests - on site salon/spa, wine bar, etc.  Perhaps a personal shopper option could be interesting as well.  You simply give him/her your list of items and run off to the spa for an hour or so.  At the end of your massage etc. your grocery items are waiting for you.  You pay for everything with a nice tip for the personal shopper and you`re on your way refreshed and with one less thing to do.

Could be fun!

Ironically enough, in the Soviet Union stores would often have personal shoppers who would guide the customer from product to product. It was a sort of make-work thing, to keep the population doing something in order go feel as if they were contributing. :-) People would come in, sit down, explain to the "waiter" or "waitress" what they wanted, and the clothing or other products would be brought to them.
