Folks:

I`m writing an article for Fortune Small Business, which is a sister publication of Fortune Magazine. The article will run in the section called Leadership.

Basically, the article will take a look at a new research study by a former Harvard Business School professor who has written about leadership styles of entrepreneurs. One of the most interesting is the "Pyromaniac," the leader who has a tendency to fire off emails and calls and declare regular "emergencies" that cause the staff to race around in a fire drill to fulfill his latest urgent demands.

Are you a pryo? More interestingly, are you a reformed pyro? Do you find yourself fighting the urge to lead by pyro tactics? What are the pros and cons of pyro tactics? If you`d like to discuss the topic, please drop me a line at pbgray@comcast.net

Many thanks,

Hi Patricia :-)
I think the flaw in the argument begins with the idea that entrepreneurs all have some kind of staff, or employees. Sure, some do...but most? I don`t think so.

I`d like to see more of these professors make a clear distinction between a "small business," and a "micro business," with the latter being easier to understand under the Cottage Industry heading, or "sole-ownership." Just my thoughts.
