Yeah, sure. Happy to!

they cover a lot of ground but I one of the most basic things that they do is use this 5 step d.r.e.a.m. method:

D - Decide what you want to change
R- Research the course you want to take
E- Evaluate how feasible your goals are
A - take action
M - Maintain your dream

i know the word "DREAM" might sounds a little cheesy but it`s really been helpful to me to think about these steps.

Something else they`ve taught me that my parents always tried to but I never really understood it until now is how important it is to look ahead and  be proactive about making decisions - big and small. because there are consequences for the actions we take and the actions we don`t take, and ultimately you`re the only one who is responsible for your happiness so if you`re lucky enough to know what you want to do (in my case, be my own boss someday soon!) you should definitely go for it. but not blindly - take the time to really do the research so you can be confident you`re taking the right course to your goal. That`s totally how I ended up here - they suggested I should get involved in small business forums, to help find a community and see what other people like me are up to, how they`re going about starting businesses and also so that I can see I`m not alone in my concerns and fears.

There is also a personal component to what they`re doing, since they are living, breathing examples of what they`re preaching, you know what I mean?

they really are living the dream (as a married couple no less!), and it`s very cool! They spend half the year in the Caribbean and half the year in Vermont. They`re happy people and i believe their willingness to change up their lives to pursue their passions has a lot to do with that. they never say it`s easy, in fact they`re very open about how much work it is to live what you love, but it also seems totally worth it.

anyhow I would like to write more but it`s time to go to bed!

I don`t agree that "dream" sounds cheesy. That`s like saying hope, honor, virtue, and other similar terms are cheesy. Sure, today`s oh-so-sophisticated people like to think that these kinds of concepts and words are passé, but then they wonder why life feels so empty and meaningless.

Nothing we accomplish in life ever happens without it first being part of the imagination, daydreams, wishes, and hopes. The only limit is what we put on our own imagination. If you truly believe it`s impossible, then it`ll indeed be impossible.

Here`s a great example: Let`s put a 20-foot steel girder on the ground, like the ones used to build the framework of a skyscraper. It`s about 18 inches wide, and I`d like to know if you can walk from one end to the other end.

Most everyone would say, sure...not a problem.

So you know for sure you can walk from one end of that exact girder to the other, right?

Now let`s put exactly that same girder 40 stories up in the air, between two sections of a new building. Think you can walk across it?

Most people would say no. Nothing at all has changed except their imagination. At 400 feet up in the sky, they imagine all sorts of horrible ways to fall and die. They feel a breeze, imagine it`s a hurricane and that it`ll blow them off the girder.

The bottom line is that in any contest between the will and the imagination, the imagination will ALWAYS win! And that works in two directions. If you imagine you can do something, you likely will persist until you no longer believe it`s possible...or you accomplish that thing.

But if you imagine you can`t possibly do something, no amount of logic, argument, willpower, and intellect will ever convince you that you can do it. Belief, dreams, and imagination all go hand in hand.

Great points all.  wdarling, I am very familiar the Blanchard`s work.  I recommend something similar to my clients.  A couple of key distinctions I make:

1.  It all starts with understanding your purpose....why you are here...something bigger than yourself.  No matter what you do, you will not utlimately experience it as success unless it is in service of that purpose

2.  Know what youy want...REALLY....in life, not just in business.  Not what you think you can have...not what you are willing to settle for, what you really and truly, from your very core want.  You might be surprised how many people do nto know this.

3.  Know where you are (starting from)....talents, interests, experiences, skills...like that.

4.  Understand that your experience in life is the result of your subconscioius beliefs...not yuour conscious one.  Because they are subconscious, they are by definition, not visible to you.  They are only aparent in your experience.  If your experience is not as you want it, ask yourself the question "what must I have believed up to this point in time, in order for this to be my experience".  THAT will reveal the evidence of a subconscious limiting belief.

5.  Clear (elimiante) any subconscious limiting beliefs that keep you from having the success experience you desire.

6.  Regularly visualize and imagine your life from the perspective of your wish fufilled.  It is critically important that you imagine it with all of thge sensory vividness of the experience fulfilled.

7.  Let go, watch, listen, and take action on any and all inspirations you receive (what the Blanchards describe as reacting to events), no matter how big or how small.

Your success is not determined by the things many believe it is.  It is not about market trends, great business plans, a magic sales technique, favorable funding or a superior product.  These are all elements of your experience of success, but the success itself is not determined through them.

I have been building businesses or virtually all kinds for 38 years and can tell you with catagorical assurance that your success truly does lie 100% within you.

Best of fortunes to one and all,

Your Success Champion,

Steve Little

I am so pleased to have found this post! I am currently in the "R" phase of D.R.E.A.M.

My sister and I have decided to start a clothing line. She is a stay-at-home mom and an incredibly talented seamstress. I am currently employed in a job I love and have an eye for fashion...together I think we can really create something fabulous.

I was cruising around the web and found Bob and Melinda`s blog/website/shop and connected with them immediately. They`re real. All of the ideas in my head have become so much more focused and I have set goals for myself with their model. Who knows, maybe I will be selling my line in their shop someday?!!!

This is a fabulous discussion. here - one of the best I have
seen.  It`s a pleasure to see people discussing how to get
results and acknowledging the limits of the "platitude" thinking
that goes around.

Thinking is hard.   That`s why people don`t want to do it.  Thinking
is demanding and can be draining - and in fact many of our Buyers
are looking for solutions that absolve them of the responsibility
to think for themselves!

When I was younger I was a hand-crafter of all sorts of goods.  It
was fun to make stuff... but selling it and getting a good price was
a serious challenge for me.  Eventually I woke up and realized that
I was marketing goods to people who didn`t have much disposable
income so when they chose to buy from me they were eliminating
all sorts of other buying options.

This reframed the whole equation of what I wanted my buisness
activities to be built around.  Eventually I came to a simple, almost
brutal formula:

- Find Buyers and sell to them at a high profit.

The information-marketing business is ideal for this.  Eventually
as a learned more and more about that business I became
more passionate about the business itself - even if the product
was inherently less interesting than custom-made craft products.

The R.esearch part of it is the toughest in many ways because
you or I will have a lot of great ideas that are just to difficult to
find profitable buyers for.

It`s easy to fall "in love" with our own ideas or products and pour
time and money into them long after we should have realized that
the market is unreachable (at a profit) with our resources.

Many markets are difficult to reach and sell to.  Also don`t get
into thinking that you can reach every market on the internet - you
can`t.  For some things, craft items in particular,  it`s way easier
to sell them in person than from a website.

If we are marketing online we owe it to ourselves to make sure that
what we offer serves compelling needs and greeds in our target market.
This is the unpleasant reality of it.  People won`t buy unless they have
an intense ITCH to scratch and our offering strikes them as a way to
scratch it easily.

Many, many products that may seem facinating to sell just don`t
scratch the itch in enough easily reached people to be massively
profitable.... and if you are in business you might as well shoot for
the low hanging fruit - the massively profitable products that can
be sold to an easily reached market.

I have an idea for you that make sense to you in your new sart-up situation. Would it make sense to you to be able to market your clothing line on a new social networking site (like MySpace and FaceBook) that would actually pay you to refer people to it? There is NO cost to you. That seems like a win-win situation.

Exposure is key to any new business, and this certainly seems like a viable way to get exposure world-wide or locally. MySpace made about $70 million in ad revenues last month, and FaceBook about $35 million.  Both collected all that revenue.  Zenzuu (www.zenzuu.com/dal) plans on keeping 20% of their ad revenue and paying out 80% to qualified members for referring others to the site.  If it works, it would be revolutionary and could generate alot of income for qualified people.  I have a side business that has already seen results from this, and I`ve only been involved for two weeks.  Maybe this would be of help to you too.

One of the abiding truths in life is that lots of people like to talk about what they`re gonna do, what oughta happen, and how life is just a lot of bad luck always causing them to lose. Only a few people, somewhere around 10% of the population, generally speaking, actually DO something---act.

It`s so true that most of our life and experience is a manifestation of our belief systems, and yet very few people choose to evaluate their own beliefs. In some ways, it`s because the beliefs are unstated, hidden, and a non-verbal blend of observations that took place in childhood. Maybe psychology can help there, depending on the psychologist`s belief system.

But ultimately, we`re only really interested in the particular beliefs that are causing particular problems. Isn`t it also odd that we so seldom examine the great things in life and wonder what beliefs brought those about? What did/do we believe that leads to the joy, pride, excitement, and happiness in our lives?

In any event; if we know something sucks, and we`re seeing it show up repeatedly in our life, we have to first notice that it`s repeating. Then we have to choose to reverse-engineer the problem to find the beliefs and myths likely helping to repeat the problem. Fine: How?
