I have had the same issue. People/Businesses selling themselves as wholesalers, when they are selling their items at retail. This past weekend I attended a WHOLESALE Tradeshow hoping to find and make partnerships with other smaller companies.
When I was there I found a product I think would do well on my site, and in my market. Some time ago, I had actually wrote a letter and mailed (not emailed) it to them asking to buy quantities of their product at wholesale prices. I didn’t get a response to my letter, but at the wholesale show is was said, the PO Box was not checked recently due to all the tradeshows they are involved with at the moment.
So I noticed the products they were showing at the Wholesale show were priced that same as the retail show I had seen them at previously. So I asked if there was a price break beyond the current price listed. The reply was, “This is our wholesale price.”
Needless to say, I cannot complete with them. They are the manufacturer and seller. They will always beat my price, and it would make it very difficult to buy their product at $5 and sell it for ten… when they are selling it for $5 at retail.
I would love to know where REAL wholesalers are.
