Hello everyone,

I decided to post this under "selecting a business for yourself" because I believe that the passion should take a big part in choosing your business.

I am new here so here's a little bit about me. I went to college just as I was told by everyone, I looked for jobs like a programmed robot. I got into a legalized slavery (mortgage industry) for nearly a year and half. I lived on my own for a year then decided to move back to parents. It's not much but I was able to save up almost 10k.

I've been doing what others been telling me to do for so long that when I sat down to think what I like to do or what my passion is, I do not even know MYSELF!!! I've heard or read about great new independent entrepreneurs, and they all say few things that are similar! "Do not let anyone tell you what you can and you cannot do." "Find out your PASSION & do what you want to do. Then you will be good at it." I decided to take this opportunity to get a part time job and take the first step to an entrepreneurship. I feel like I cannot move forward without finding out what my passion is and what I want to do. So my question is... how did you find out your passion? Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you everyone!

Finding out what your passion is one thing, but being brutally honest with yourself and deciding what you really want out of life is where I would start.

You obviously have entreprenurial spirit or you wouldn't be here. Let's pray that the flame stays lit for years to come.

Do you want to work in your own business day in, day out or would you prefer to setup a business that is more automated and allows you to have more time to do other things?

Is business your passion or is some other sport, hobby, charity, ministry or whatever?

What do you love to do?

What are you great at?

What have you always aspired to achieve in your life before you leave this earth?

Decide what you want out of life first then establish a business that works into that plan.

To your success,

Dave Krygier

Hey Dave,

I would much prefer automated business system over a business where I am stuck with long hours. I thought many business owners start with day in & day out then implement the system to make it more automated. That way they can enjoy more leisure compare to the beginning.

What sort of low cost start up business/ business ideas are out there while it's more automated to free up my time? I can only think of doing website then generating traffic with seo. I am pretty much new to making websites & seo so it seems like another language to me for now.

I do like gaming, swimming, reading, and etc. Among these, I don't think there is something I can turn into a business with just passion. I may just not able to see the opportunity.

I love to play golf, being active, travel, and such. I would really love to be able to afford to travel all around the world and the tickets to opera, broad way, jazz, classical music concerts. As much as I love modern music, I have deep respect for classical, soul, and jazz music.

I have been an average so I can't think of anything I am good at from top of my head at this moment.

Of course, I would like to live in prosperity without living in fear of financial instability. Accumulating wealth is something I would want to achieve before I leave this earth.

You can do any work with honest, interests and even get success,if you have passion for it but always be true to yourself, and if you cannot put your heart in it,take yourself out of it.

Thanks for advice... but still having hard time figuring out what I can do to monetize while doing something I am passionate about. I am even having a hard time trying to think of anything I am passionate about haha... it seems like this is bad.

I think finding your passion is two-fold: what you enjoy doing and what you're good at. Those may not be the same thing. But you should be able to take inventory of your life and figure it out.

1 - What do you enjoy doing when you have free time? What are your hobbies and interests? For some, it's big and obvious like Mountain Bike Riding or Gardening. For others, it's more subtle like tinkering. You are still pretty young, but think to when you were a kid. What did you enjoy doing then? For example, I'm a pretty creative gal and I've always been that way. I loved making crafts as a kid. I loved creating new things. I continue to do that today.

2 - Then what are you good at? When you go to work whether it was in the mortgage industry or your current part-time job. What are the parts of the day that seem easier to you than everybody else? What are the tasks you enjoy and breeze through? Those are big indicators that you have an aptitude and interest in that area. For example, my education is as a computer programmer. I like to solve puzzles and solve problems. As a product developer, it's similar - I like to find new ways to do things. As a creative person with my own website, I'm able to do much of the web changes myself because I have an aptitude for that.

And also, just give yourself a little break. You are young. Your passions may come as a result of trying several different things to learn more about yourself. I'm sure it will work out.

Good luck!

Many business owners INTEND to start with day in and day out, then implement systems, but honestly, that is one of the most difficult parts of business. I know. That's one place my first business failed, and I burned out.

If you are going to start your own business, you'll be in the position of learning HOW to create systems from what you figure out as you go along.

I'm doing that. I'm helping my licensee partners to build their businesses process by process.

I do like gaming, swimming, reading, and etc. Among these, I don't think there is something I can turn into a business with just passion. I may just not able to see the opportunity.

No, it will not take JUST passion. It will take a lot of work, research, willpower, and general stubborness. The passion will make it possible, though, because without it, you'll never make it through the building period, where you're working like a dog and not making squat. *grins*

I love to play golf, being active, travel, and such. I would really love to be able to afford to travel all around the world and the tickets to opera, broad way, jazz, classical music concerts.

Then PLAN for it.

I did it once. I built a business from nothing to $250k in 5 years, then kept it there for 5 years before I burned out.

I'm doing it from nothing again (long story, LOL!), and I'm a year in. It's hard work, exhilarating, frustration, crazy-making, wonderful, impossible, inspiring...

*smiles*

i agree that passion is key, but what is also important is to be realistic in your expectations. your passion must also be conducive to the idea's profitability

Hey

First of all congratulations on wanting to enter the entrepreneurial world...it takes a lot of courage to transfer from a safe environment to a risky one.

I think its all well and good trying to identify your hobbies and interests then attempting to transfer this into a business model - Which often does have advantages...entrepreneurs who do something they love will do it with added passion, often have a deeper understanding and interest of the industry and be willing to put in the extra hours required with less strain.

However they also have the problem of becoming consumed with there love for an idea which adds risk - especially if it is a market that is highly competitive or mature.

In my opinion the first thing you should do...Take a business course, a free one preferably. Currently HM Revenue & Customs are conducting free business courses and I would recommend attending. The main reason being simple - Business is not for everyone and unfortunately the quicker you learn that with the least resources the better. It does take a particular type of personality, so go and try one out, you will either love it or hate it. Also I believe attaining a qualification or attending workshops / seminars are extremely worthy if you are serious about entering business.

After this, The next thing I would concentrate on would be trends. What are people spending more money on, less money on in your region? In what industries is this occuring? What are your local governments plans in your region? Are their bursaries/funding for certain industries? etc.

The quicker you identify key strengths and weaknesses in business as a whole, the less time and money you will waste on a area you love that is currently failing!

Good Luck!
