I have been having trouble lately staying focused.  This is not a usual problem for me.

In the past I could spend hours on a project and not get distracted.   Now I “ping-pong” from one thing to another.  Part of the problem is I have quite a few things to do, and everything is priority #1. So no matter what I do, I am thinking about the things that are not getting done. Sometimes I think I might actually need a boss (Yikes!) to get things done!

Does anyone else have this problem? How do you deal with it?

Thanks!

I have this problem all the time.

Try making a list of things and knock them off one by one.  Take notice when you DO actually accomplish things.  Often times when there is a lot to do, we don`t notice how much we have completed.

If lists freak you out more, schedule some time to do absolutely nothing, even if it is for 15 minutes.

Hope that helps.

You definitely need a to-do list. Be specific:
1) I need to make my blog.
    a) download the software
    b) install it
    c) export posts from old blog and import into new blog

Checking things off makes you feel accomplished and helps you to stay motivated.

And don`t make everything priority #1!!!

Pinging from one thing to another is unproductive, just as is multitasking.  You`ll find that if you can spend concentrated, focused time on any particular task, it will be easier to complete more.  Try not to let yourself be interrupted by the phone or e-mail - tall order, I know.

It`s been shown in studies that when a subject is interrupted, it generally takes up to 20 minutes for the subject to regain focus on the given task.  So every time you`re interrupted, not only does the interruption use up your time, but so does getting back to where you were.

You might also consider delegating some of the tasks that need done.

Thanks for all the great advice!

I`ve been doing some soul-searching with all of this and I think my problem is really that I am spending all day on work.  I work the regular job and then in my spare time I "play around" with web design, blogging, etc. But, it is still related to my work. (Accounting, taxes, business and money mentoring)
I am going to take some time and rethink how I want to "play". I`ve decided to separate my work and my play.  I am going to work on web design and blogging on my hobby topics,(gardening, music, "conservative enviromentalism)  rather than my work topic. If it turns out I can make some money there...cool.
If not,  at least I am enjoying what I am doing!
