Funny you mention that. I started a genre story today - starting the third page. I was thinking a steampunk genre serial would be nice for setting the mood. I like to think I`m a great short story writer - been doing it for 20 years. My partner happens to be an illustrator. Before I had the cafe idea, we were going to make money publishing stories. It flopped, but the potential was there and I write anyway. An airship captain, a mad scientist, his femme automaton, a deposed dictator/general, and a mysterious stranger enter the bermuda triangle in search of a powerful artifact and land in an alternate dimension where I`m not sure what`ll happen. It`s totally cliche in every regard, intentionally so, like a 1940s radio adventure, but the airships and crazy inventions make it kinda fun.

"....and land in an alternate dimension where I`m not sure what`ll happen..."

Well OBviously, they`ll discover a new way to make coffee, never before dreamed of in their home dimension! But it`s guarded by violent and crafty alien beings.

Or something.... :-)

Went to the town hall today to gather the necessary paperwork to get the government requirements out of the way. It reminded me of a Kurosawa movie I watch called "Ikiru" - bureaucracy at its finest. Kafka would be proud.

Friend: "Go to economic development and you can get your paperwork."
ED: "We don`t do that here. You need the town clerk."
TC: "Oh, that`s not here. You should go talk to the town planner."
TP: "We`re sorry, Mario. The Princess is in another castle."

When it was all said and done, I got 0 relevant papers to fill out. I did find one that happened to have a phone number for somebody who might work in a dept I might need paperwork from eventually. I`m glad I stopped for a coffee on the way. The drive wasn`t a total waste. I went to four different offices for a sheet of paper and left with a phone number. Insanity.

The problem here is that you need to kill the Sorcerer of Flam. Only after that will you have the new power to open the Sorcerer`s Doorway. That`s located in the Castle of Malox. When you open the Doorway, you`ll find the Mystery Incunabula with directions as to the spells needed to manifest the papers.

So we got approved for a loan of a yet to be determined amount in the ballpark of 50,000. We got a 1042 sqft store in a popular shopping mall. We got it for 2,000 a month rent. Compare this to the 3-4,000 a month rent of a 1,500 sqft self contained building we originally wanted. Also consider that the mall supplies bathrooms and other facilities that were in the 1,500 sqft of the original idea that aren`t part of the 1042 that I`m getting for free and I don`t have to clean (thank God), and it`s a great deal. I took a ton of photos. They`re giving us desks, counters, display racks, shelves, the works - we can use as much of it as we want, or have whatever moved out. We can tear down walls, paint, do anything. It`s like we own it. This is such a great deal it`s unbelievable. They give us three months on the lease agreement without charge, as a friendly "time to move in and get situated" window. They`re really going above and beyond. If our sales show we`re struggling, they can adjust our rates accordingly. I think this is going to work.
