Now that the government has deregulated Time, my soon-to-be-copyrighted idea will make millions! "Personalized Time!"

C`mon...it`s FANNNNnntastic! Think of the opportunities here! Why, just for myself, I`ve found that an entire hour is too much to deal with. As such, I`ve set my clocks ahead 43 minutes. That works perfectly for me, and causes much less trouble.

In the past, we were supposed to set the clocks back again, in October. Now, with the government pretty much stepping away from the entire area, it leaves me the opportunity to set my clocks back in December. That`s far more convenient for me, as I could use the time to do my Christmas......sorry...my "Holiday" shopping.

If you hurry, you can own your own Personalized Time franchise. Email me for details, but each franchise costs only $200 (plus shipping and handling, three easy payments of $66.95, we take credit cards and PayPal, no one under 18 allowed, must be accompanied by a fishing boat.)

Think of the fun you`ll provide! Imagine the barrel of laughs, nifty party gags, and plain old hijinxes...isus...uzez...WHATever...of having your Own Personalize Time company! Sign up Now!

Oh man.

This whole thing is just a crackup. I mean, Y2K wasn`t enough so the administration needed to create a new version in 2007?
How much do we save in "energy costs" vs. how much (as a nation) did we spend paying programmers to scramble and fix a bunch of software (plus time spent updating all the computers, time spent getting the news out about it, etc etc etc)?

I had to download a patch for my computer. I think I should sent the government an invoice for my time.

Nikole: Download a patch? What are you running there, a Cray supercomputer? Mine just updated itself somehow. Probably the NSA guys who are monitoring my internet were nice enough to update it for me, since they probably read all of my email. Gotta love the Bush administration!

I just bought a Vespa to put my money where my mouth was with regards to Global Warming. 72 mpg. I just wink when I go by a $2.52 per gallon gas station. For those of you who want to write in and dispute Global Warming, please interview a polar bear first...

Anyway, the earlier/later Daylight Savings Time thing works for me. More daylight means less chance I get run over by a Fed Ex truck.

If you think $2.52 a gallon is high, just wait for the wag-the-dog Bushies to invade Iran to get our minds off the Scooter Libby/Dick Cheney/FEMA/New Orleans/Iraq debacle/Abramoff scandal/etc/etc/etc. Then, my 2.4 gallon little gas tank will make me look like a genius.

I looked at my orbit with regards to my travels, and realized that 98% of my commutes were within 5 miles of my house, which is also my office. My second office in Boston requires a flight and cabs or rental cars anyway, and none of my clients are here. Any travel outside of that is a $30 rental. I am saving about $5000 per year on gas, oil, maintenance, car insurance, etc. More money for the business which I would have been spending.

So, less darkness means less energy usage. Makes sense to me.

Now they just need to figure out how to spend more of our money on Halliburton no-bid contracts to use that savings on other stuff, plus more Cruise missles. Believe me, they may be idiots about most things, but they will definitaly figure that one out. Follow the money, my friends, follow the money...

How are you paying $2.52?

It`s like $3.11 around here.

It`s a mac. It downloaded an update.

See, I already look like a petroleum visionary!

Charlotte is the most expensive on the East Coast, but since I filled up the other day for all of $1.85, I think I can handle it.

Yeah....but...but wait....! What about letting everyone CHOOSE how many minutes to change their clock by? I mean....like....I mean....this is a business idea! We can make money from this! If you want to set your clocks ahead by, like, 50 days....that`d be okay, right? Wouldn`t it?

Craig,

As long as we`re into time travel now and everything. and you opened yourself up to this: Your hairline looks like it set itself about 25 years later than the rest of you.

So, are you sure this is a good idea?

Daylight saving... Is it a savings? That`s been debated for 100 years. Nobody really knows yet. Too much data to analyze. But then again, we (the people) aren`t really in charge to make our own assessment. We have to follow the status quo.

As for your biz concept CraigL. I`m with you. That`s a great idea, I think I`ll send you my $200 and get in on the franchise before the market is flooded!

Now that you bring that up the whole issue of how we keep time is totally out of whack with the rest of our civilization. We based our civilization on the decimal system because we have ten fingers people used to count up to then then one finger down and start with eleven at twenty two fingers down and so forth. Plus ten just makes sense.

The way in which we keep time comes from civilizations long defunct (Egypt, Sumer, India, China), that were based on the duodecimal system, 12 hours in each half of the day. There are several hypothesis as to why the duodecimal was chosen by those civilizations but nobody really knows. To make things worse the 12 hours of the day (or 24 if you count both halves), are divided by 60 minutes, this is from an even earlier civilization (Babylon) who used a base-60 numbering system (what was up with that?), hence the 60 minutes to the hour.

Our civilization is based on the decimal system we should just get rid of those and antiquated time measurements and divide the day into 10 hours, each hour should have 100 minutes each minute 100 seconds. Since a day has 86,400 current seconds the new seconds would have to last 0.864 (current) seconds, a minute would then last 86.4 (current) seconds, and an hour 8,640 (current) seconds or 2.4 (current) hours. So right now instead of it being 1:11 PM it would be 5:50.53

That would make sense. :-)
