It's certainly been tried by a lot businesses out there, and unfortunately only a few got real good profits from it.
Creating fan pages for your business can be a bit tricky. But for me, it's really just a platform to advertise what you already have (i.e. the great service you provide, customer's feedback, and discount/promotional offers to name a few). You then use this fan page to spread all these information to reach out others and hopefully meet new prospects for your business.
But also, it's paramount that you appreciate and take care of your current customers/clients; this is equally as important as finding new ones.
