I currently do tax returns for three months out of the year. I am looking to expand my core accounting and tax knowledge into the nine months that I am off. I can not expand a substantial nontax-season revenue that extends into tax season as tax season provides the biggest bang for the buck. Any ideas for a target market that would be profitable?

How about e-courses to business owners about all the tax benefits they can receive?

Many tax preparers in our area work with clients 12 months a year to keep their tax records in order.  They also offer training classes or teach at the local community college.

Teaching classes at a community college or Adult Education at a local High School can help get your name out there and expand your business.

another option is to pursue a CFP, or team up with one.  this one goes hand in hand with tax planning....the CFP can get into investments, estate planning, securities etc. lots of residual income opportunities as well (selling stocks/funds).  make yourself a one stop shop?

Could you expand the tax season by working with customers that use a fiscal year that isn`t the calendar year? This is an especially good option for businesses whose busy season corresponds with the normal tax season.

You might want to consider doing it full time as companies would prefer accountants to be working with them on the long term rather than a short period of time.
