I really want to start my own business however the problem is I have never really been passionate about anything! I have worked in the media industry making tv programmes and more recently content for mobile phones. To cut a long story short I`m fed up doing contracting/freelancing in this field not knowing where my next job is coming from. I would like to do something in mobile content but unsure about where to source new content from. I`ve thought about starting my own production company and doing education videos but (I know it sounds silly) I don`t know where to start! I`m thinking of doing a Masters/Post Graduate course in Ergonomics (I got good grades in this at university) and starting a business in this field but uncertain if it`s feasible to do so. Help! Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

First of all, as soon as you choose to be an entrepreneur, you`re likely never again going to know where your next job will come from. When you`re successful, you`ll have a good average and some trend information, so you`ll be able to put money aside for slow times. But that`s after you have regular clients and sales.

To your main question though: How would you describe or define "ergonomics?"

Hi there thanks for your reply. Ergonomics I believe is more widely known in the USA as `Human Factors`. It`s is the application of scientific information concerning humans to the design of objects, systems and environment for human use.For example you could ergonomically desigened chairs to stop you getting a backache!

Okay....so now how would you begin this as a business focused on "ergonomics." Would it be like an architect, where you design products? How many, and what would be your criteria: furniture, utensils, tools?

Well I would like to use it in the media industry but couldn`t really think of anything to really apply it to so was thinking of developing products. The market for easy to use and comfortable everyday products seems easier although I`m not really sure about the market potential as there seems to be a lot of competition out there.

Consider what Good Grips did with a plain old potatoe peeler! Ergonomically correct, and at the quality level of commercial kitchens, but for the home user. :-)
