Equity in lieu of cash?

Would any of you ever be willing to offer services or products instead of cash to a new startup. For instance, offer legal counsel for 1% equity or build a website for 2% etc.

I can`t in this business but I have in the past. It didn`t net me much in the long run but it wasn`t a bad experience either. The startup didn`t go very far. I have mostly done it in grant writing situations.
