Are you afraid to approach a stranger with your product or service? If you're new to sales, we call this prospecting and in my 20 years of experience in sales, I've yet to find a professional who loves to prospect. It's flat-out scary to most...even the most seasoned professionals.
However, I have found prospecting to be the most powerful tools we can use to build our businesses. But, let me ask you an initial question: Do you cringe at the thought of being a salesperson? If so, you're not alone. As the matter of fact, I've been on several coaching calls in the area of defining who we are as businesswoman OUTSIDE of our role as saleswoman. We typically do NOT want to claim this role. Why?
Isn't it true that we have a very distinct picture of what a saleperson looks like? Sleazy. Pushy. Self-centered. Agenda-driven. Just to name a few. Not too pretty, eh? But, I'm wondering how our businesses would change if we embraced our inner-saleswoman. If we re-defined what this picture looks like. If we created a picture full of authenticity and truth.
Perhaps, we need to let go of the "I am woman...hear me roar" picture and replace it with the "I am woman...hear me purr" picture. I think it might work. To roar or to purr? That is the question for today.
Aristotle said: The soul never thinks without a picture.
What kind of picture can you create around I am woman...hear me purr?
She purrs: You know...it's lonely writing for a silent audience so leave a comment. It fills my need for community and inspires me to share more.
