Tip 1: Build a targeted, niche-centered mailing list

Email newsletters should reach the company's desired audience and not just any audience. It is imperative to build a targeted, niche-centered mailing list that includes people who might be interested in the products and/or services your company offers.

Tip 2: Make it personal

Another way of making the most out of your email newsletter is to make it more personal. You can do this by greeting the people in your mailing list by their first names. You should not start your email newsletter with a cold “Hi there” or a very impersonal “What’s up guys?”

Tip 3: Provide additional perks, benefits and privileges

It is also essential to provide additional perks, benefits and privileges to your readers. People love freebies – it is a form of positive reinforcement.

You can give your readers freebies such as a free trial, a short e-book, discount offers and even a limited version of the product you’re selling.

Tip 4: Use the power of social media

The power of social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter can make a huge difference in marketing. You can use Facebook and Twitter in building a mailing list and establish a more reputable brand.

Tip 5: Include you name and your contact information

Putting your name and your contact information at the end of your email newsletter is also recommended. It will add credibility to what you are saying. It makes you appear more human and less spammy.

Tip 6: Plan ahead – make an outline of topics/subjects in advance

Some add-ups:

- Make sure your email has obvious links for calling to action

- Minimize your use of images

- Make it easy to uncubscribe

- Keep your text short and easy to scan

I just interviewed the owner of mailermailer, an email marketing firm.

I'm not entirely sure how they do what they do, but the owner was big on treating customers as "family"

I think it's really important to keep basic strategy to mind when you're building and email marketing program.

- determine your goals

- how will you provide content for those emails?

and so on.

Can I add a big suggestion for email marketing here.

 

3 Components of Money Making Emails


1. Who it's from

Before you look at anything in the email, people evaluate the email  by who it is coming from. You must add value in your emails and build relationships with them.  When you have a relationship with people, that's when they will open your emails consistently. 

Think about this.  Do you open emails from your friends and family first or do you open emails from companies and business colleagues first?  It's usually friends and family.  Therefore you need to become important to your clients.

 

2. Subject Line

The subject line is the WHAT of the email.  This is what determines whether or not your email gets opened.  Use great headlines (I steal mine from magazine covers because they spend the  majority of their money on headlines).  Create great subject lines and you can get your emails opened.

 

3. FIRST sentence of the email.

The third component of the triad is the first sentence.  This determines whether they will continue reading or not.  If you have given them a great subject line and they open it to a poor first sentence, people don't read... and if they don't read, they won't take action.  

 

 

So it's critical to make sure that these components are all looked after.  


Make an email marketing check list and make sure that you  are always adding more value, that you have a great subject and you have  great first sentence.
